The new school year is starting. What is your biggest challenge?

learning about fungi today...watch...go into forest to look for some...nature journal...very exciting

So many of us are in lockdown at the moment with Covid having become such a big part of our lives now days. Take some time out with your little one and see how many things you can tick off in a scavenger hunt. *not my creation.

What in your opinion is the most useful equipment or material to have in your Montessori home schooling classroom?

Children learn best when things are concrete. Maria Montessori advocated moving from the concrete towards the abstract when teaching anything. Heres a good way to teach about land and water animals. If you dont have one of these troughs- you can just use large bowls. One with water and one with sand and let your child place the animal in the correct bowl. (a few drops of blue vegetable colour can make the water look more attractive too.)
Kmart has some lovely realistic animals that dont cost the earth.
Once your child has grasped this, you can move onto land and water animal nomenclature cards.

This morning started with some maths...learning about volume. Then we gently expanded into some science.

For Rossy today, i used the contraction materials for his english bookwork. He enjoyed it far more than merely writing it out. he was able to self correct using the contraction table from the materials from our sister site, www.montessorihelper.com.
