Love this campaign from Police Scotland, because sexual or any violence doesn’t begin with an assault.
It begins with attitudes.
With silence.
With “banter”.
With mates saying nothing.
And timing matters.
In Australia, the Christmas–New Year period consistently shows spikes in violence, including:
• Domestic and family violence incidents
• Non-domestic assaults linked to alcohol and social settings
• Increased risk for women when routines change, alcohol use rises, and boundaries are ignored
Public holidays — particularly Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day — are among the highest-risk days of the year for violence.
Yet sexual violence remains vastly under-reported and we can all see why that is.
Women don’t stay silent because nothing happened — they stay silent because the cost of speaking up is too high. The price of being the 'perfect victim', that reacted in trauma in 'the perfect way' even in 2025 is impossible.
When perpetrators are framed as the victims.
When women are questioned, scrutinised or blamed.
When “he’s a good guy” and all the excuses play out in the media and they get more coverage than a womans fundamental right to be safe.
THAT GUY is a campaign from Police Scotland that began in 2021 and aims to reduce r**e, serious sexual assault and harassment by having frank conversations with men about attitudes and behaviour around women.
This campaign isn’t about shaming men.
It’s about responsibility.
✔ Calling out behaviour early
✔ Having the uncomfortable conversation
✔ Being the mate who steps in — not the one who looks away
Sexual violence doesn’t start in a dark alley.
It starts in everyday moments — especially at this time of year.
Don’t be the guy who stands by and says nothing.
Be the one who stops it before it starts. That is not only about creating a world that is safer for woman, but it is also looking after your mate and teaching them that any disrespect is not ok.
For too long I have witnessed the women in my life being the ones that had to call out bad behaviour, while the men remained silent. Then the women being attacked again because can't you take a joke.
Let's start celebrating this festive season by showing up for all girls and women and maybe even saving a mate from from his future self.

We had an amazing afternoon last week at the Celtic Club Melbourne Business Lunch, where Kerry Ashbrook sparked a powerful conversation on reinvention, financial independence and the courage to act.
The room was full of energy — from discussing our three earning decades, super, owning your home to organisational politics, women’s football, Port Melbourne Chargers Womens Football Club community… and even The Ashes.
It was brilliant to see so many new connections forming, with people discovering shared stories and connected networks for the first time. Real and .
Special highlights included Kerry being the first female speaker in the Business Club series and seeing mothers bring their daughters — it’s never too early (or too late) to understand how today’s choices shape tomorrow’s options.
A huge thank you to everyone who came up afterwards to share how thought-provoking the session was — and especially to those heading home to do a personal stocktake, including finally checking in on their super. There was also some A Life Reinvented books making their way to new homes.
Fantastic food as always, from The Wild Geese Hotel, great wine, fabulous Di**le Distillery tasting, and a few A Life Reinvented books heading to new homes.
Even Kerry's Irish Grandad got a mention, a great way to kick off the weekend!

Each Month the Celtic Club hosts their Business Lunch Club, providing the perfect opportunity to network, enjoy great food and drinks with a guest presentation and thought-provoking conversations.
This month, we’re delighted that the guest presenter is Kerry Ashbrook.
From caravans to corporate leadership, property investment to community impact. Kerry will share her personal story and practical steps to gain clarity, confidence, and courage in life, work and money.
With conversation on both personal and business transformation, reinvention, and real-world choices, beyond “find your purpose” to building security and freedom.
Are the choices you are making today, shaping the future you truly want?

This Friday 12 September, at the RACV Club, I will be joining their Knowledge Exchange Luncheon series, to share my journey to A Life Reinvented and beyond.
