Today, our dedicated team participated in First Aid Training, taking the opportunity to refresh and strengthen our knowledge, skills and confidence in responding to first aid situations and emergencies.

Our educators explored important first aid procedures, emergency responses and practical skills to help ensure we are well prepared to act calmly and confidently when it matters most.

At Goodstart Boronia, the safety, health and wellbeing of the children in our care is always our priority. Regular training helps our team stay prepared, informed and confident in providing a safe and supportive environment for every child. ❤️

🍎 Food Service & Medical Conditions Procedures Training

Takeaway: A confident, capable team keeps children safe through consistent practice, clear communication and shared responsibility.

Our Food Service and Medical Conditions Procedures training provided our team with practical guidance, tools and resources to further strengthen the confidence and capability of our dedicated educators when managing children’s medical conditions and administering medication safely.

This session created an important opportunity for us to revisit our responsibilities, critically reflect on our current practices, and reinforce the importance of following each child’s individual medical management plan, risk‑minimisation strategies and communication processes.

This training supports our ongoing commitment to ensuring our practices align with the Education and Care Services National Regulations, particularly requirements relating to medical conditions, medication administration, accurate documentation and keeping children safe.

Most importantly, it reaffirmed that medical management is everyone’s responsibility. Consistency, communication and preparedness across our whole team are essential to protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of every little citizen in our care.

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Making Magical Mud: A Sensory and Scientific Exploration for Science Week

Today, our Kinder children engaged in a rich hands‑on investigation, creating magical mud (oobleck) using cornflour, water and food colouring.

This experience blended scientific inquiry, sensory exploration, and early numeracy, offering children the opportunity to experiment, observe, communicate and collaborate as young scientists.

Pumpkin Scones Cooking Experience

Today, most of the children joined me inside to make a batch of pumpkin scones. A few children responded with an honest “eeew, pumpkin,” which opened a meaningful conversation about trying new things. When I asked, “Have you tried pumpkin scones?” they all said “no,” so we talked about how we taste with our mouths, not our eyes, and how exploring new foods helps us learn what we truly enjoy.

At afternoon tea, every child tried the scones. Fourteen out of twenty‑two children loved them, while the others tasted them but decided the flavour wasn’t for them. Their reactions may have been influenced by the nutmeg, the colour, knowing they contained pumpkin, or the fact that they were more savoury than sweet.

This experience supported children to build confidence, curiosity, and positive risk‑taking. Learning to try new foods—even when they look or sound unfamiliar—is an important part of developing resilience and open‑mindedness. We hope families enjoyed the extra scones we left in the front office.

Children remembered steps, instructions, and sequences while preparing the scones.

• Emergent reading — Children used print cues, recipe steps, and ingredient labels to support early reading behaviours.

• Measurement — Children explored concepts such as quantity, size, and comparison through measuring ingredients.

• Body and sensory awareness — Children engaged their senses—touch, smell, sight, taste—to explore ingredients and respond to new sensory experiences.
