St Bernard's Primary School East Coburg

Last week we hosted our Prep to Grade 2 Student Learning in Action evening session showcasing Mathematics. Parents experienced the importance of daily maths review highlighting how regular practice and opportunities for retrieval, helps strengthen students’ confidence, fluency, and problem-solving skills. It was wonderful to see students working alongside their parents, applying mathematical concepts to solve a variety of problems and challenge their thinking.

A reminder we will be hosting two additional ‘Mini Bernie’s Little Scholars Taste of School’ sessions for children aged 3, 4 or 5 years old and their parents. These sessions will showcase our new STEM Lab and engage young children with the curriculum area of Science.

We had a perfect afternoon for our Walkathon. The students had a fun time dressing up in their house colours and walking with their friends. Thank you to the BPC volunteers for planning and helping out today.

Congratulations to our Prep class on 100 Days of School.
They had a fun day celebrating with activities relating to 100, dressing up as 100 year olds and a performance by Tim Credible the Magician.

Thank you so much to Mick and Lakota from Coburg Giant's for the fantastic basketball workshop for our senior students. Our students had a great time developing their skills, building confidence and having fun while learning more about basketball.

There was plenty of excitement around school this morning as two of our Junior students stepped into the role of Principal for the Morning! 🎉

They were the first students to redeem 120 Gotcha tokens, earned through our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program.

From welcoming students at the gate and completing classroom safety checks to handing out Gotchas, putting up posters, and preparing to make a whole-school announcement over the PA system, they embraced every part of the role with enthusiasm and pride.

A fantastic reward for consistently demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Safety.

This morning we hosted our Grandparents Day celebration. Thank you to all the Grandparents and special people who joined us today. We loved welcoming you into our school community and celebrating the special role you play in the lives of our students.

Thankyou so much to the Gnoccheria, 89B Harding Street Coburg for a wonderful school fundraiser. A long standing supporter of our school and absolutely delicious gnocchi, pasta sauces and lasagne!

Excursion to Zaatar
Today our Prep to Year 2 students had a walking excursion to Zaatar.
They enjoyed the delicious Lebanese food (cheese pie and zaatar) and then had a fun time on the playground nearby. The students learnt how different cultures have shaped Coburg and the community. This excursion supports our Inquiry Unit, which explores the concepts of family, culture, diversity, and change over time, with a particular focus on the Coburg community. Thank you to the staff at Zaatar for being so generous.
