Applying for Early Childhood Teacher jobs in Australia? 🇦🇺 Don’t let these resume mistakes hold you back 👇
1️⃣ Using the same resume for every job
Match it to the role and borrow relevant keywords from the job ad.
2️⃣ Already have VIT registration? Make it visible.
If you’re applying in Victoria and already hold **Provisional or Full VIT registration**, include it near the top of your resume.
Still studying? You won’t have VIT registration yet so this doesn’t apply to you.
3️⃣ Listing duties, not impact
Don’t just say what you did. Show what you achieved!
4️⃣ Forgetting key frameworks
Mention the EYLF v2.0, VEYLDF, NQS, Child Safe Standards and ECA Code of Ethics.
5️⃣ Missing important certificates
Add your WWCC, First Aid, CPR, Anaphylaxis, Asthma and Child Protection training where relevant.
6️⃣ Writing huge paragraphs
Keep it short, clear and easy to scan.
7️⃣ Leaving out your leadership skills
Show how you’ve led programs, supported educators and built relationships with families.
8️⃣ Using an unprofessional email or photo
Keep your work email simple and professional. You usually don’t need a photo.
9️⃣ Not explaining employment gaps
A quick note about study, placement or time away is enough.
🔟 Forgetting to proofread
One small spelling mistake can leave the wrong impression.
✨ Bonus tip: Keep your resume ATS-friendly and around two to three pages. Include relevant keywords such as Early Childhood Teacher, Kindergarten Teacher, EYLF, VEYLDF, Curriculum Planning, Assessment and Planning Cycle, Educational Leader and Family Engagement when they genuinely reflect your experience.
