"My Child Can’t Control Their Body" — The Truth About Whole-Body Apraxia in Autism 08/11/2025

Apraxia and Autism are not the same, but when you Google "apraxia", it can be very confusing. Search results suggest: apraxia of speech, dyspraxia, acquired apraxia, DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder).

In this video, Dana breaks down what each of these terms really means, why so many families are confused, and how whole-body apraxia offers a more accurate way to understand your child’s movement, regulation, and development.

You’ll learn:
✅ Why everyone — even professionals — gets confused about the word apraxia
✅ What DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) really is, and how it’s used as the medical term for motor impairment in autism
✅ Why your child’s motor challenges go far beyond speech or “clumsiness”
✅ How clinicians like Dana are working to redefine motor impairment as a core feature of autism, not a co-occurring condition
✅ How to advocate for your child at school and in therapy using the right language
✅ Practical tools — like motor coaching and exercise — to support intentional movement and build better brain-body connection

Here are the key topics covered:
What is whole-body apraxia?
Apraxia vs. dyspraxia vs. DCD vs. CAS
Motor impairment and autism
Motor planning and sensory integration
Why movement and health are connected
How to get a DCD diagnosis
Intentional motor health and body-brain connection

Speech vs. Language ✨

Speech is the act of talking

Language is the ideas, thoughts, and understanding behind the words.

Someone may struggle to speak — but still have rich language inside.

That’s why we always PRESUME COMPETENCE!
The voice might be different, but the thinking is still there.

S2C is all about giving nonspeaking individuals a reliable way to express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. 💬 Every person has a voice, sometimes we just need the right pathway to bring it out.

If you’d like to learn more or chat about whether S2C could be a fit for your child or loved one, I’d love to connect. 💛
