Loose parts provide limitless possibilities!
When we give children open-ended materials we’re not just giving them "things." We’re giving them freedom to let their imaginations run wild.
Loose parts play invites creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. There’s no “right way” to use them—just a chance to explore, build, imagine, and invent.

At Buddies, we love being out in the community, going on excursions to further the interests and learning of the children.
Today, the Preschoolers participated in an excursion to the local nursery, making the most of the walk by extending their literacy skills - reading road signs, shop names, and even writing spotted on the pavement.
At the nursery, they carefully selected vibrant marigolds and applied their numeracy knowledge to the pay the cashier.
Upon retuning to Buddies, the children worked together to plant the flowers in the front garden, demonstrating care for the environment and a growing understanding of sustainability and nature 🌸🌻🌼🪻

Beach Kinder is all about exploring and discovering the wonders of nature ☀️🌊🐚🦀
Children dive into a world full of curiosity - hunting for shells, watching tiny crabs scurry, and feeling the wind in their hair. It’s a place where imagination runs wild and ever rock pool holds a new surprise. No day is ever the same experience.
As they play and explore, children build confidence, creativity and a love for the great outdoors!

Last night, our community came together to share space and commemorate October 7. Teachers and parents sat side by side, engaging in the cathartic process of clay making. As hands shaped clay, stories of history were shared, exquisite pieces of Judaica were created, and a collective sense of loss—and hope for the hostages—filled the room. It was a moving evening of reflection, creativity, and connection 🎗️

The Junior Kinder children have been engaging in enriching excursions to the St Kilda Veg Out Community Garden, where they have the opportunity to explore vibrant vegetable gardens, interactive art displays, and the surrounding natural environment. These visits support hands-on learning and foster curiosity about sustainability, gardening, and community life. Through these experiences, children deepen their connection with nature, develop an appreciation for locally grown produce, and engage meaningfully with the broader community in a welcoming and creative outdoor setting 🌿🌱🥕🥦

This week, children engaged in a hands-on Hebrew music and movement experience with the song "Kach Nolad Hatzevah" (כך נולד הצבע – This is How the Colour Was Born).
Through listening and responding to the lyrics, the children explored the Hebrew names for different colours. As each colour was mentioned in the song, the children identified and combined them to discover the new colour that was “born” — just like in the lyrics!
This interactive approach supported their language development, reinforced colour recognition, and deepened their understanding of colour mixing – all while having fun through music and movement.

Today, our young artists engaged in a sensory-rich process art experience using lemons in multiple forms—stamping with lemon halves and flowers, and even painting with lemon juice (a little invisible ink magic!).
Through this open-ended activity, children are developing:✨ Fine motor skills – squeezing, stamping, and brushing🧠 Scientific thinking – observing reactions like oxidation with lemon juice🎨 Creative expression – exploring textures, patterns, and natural materials👃 Sensory awareness – engaging smell, touch, and sight🌿 Nature connection – working with organic materials encourages appreciation and curiosity about the natural world

Sensory play isn't just fun — it's foundational!
Engaging in sensory-rich activities helps children develop cognitive growth, fine motor skills, language acquisition, and social interaction. When little ones explore textures, sounds, and movements, they're building neural pathways that support learning, regulation, and creativity.

The children had a hands-on sensory adventure using freshly picked lemons from Gina's garden to make their own delicious lemonade!
With child-safe knives, they carefully sliced the lemons, then used their hands and a juicer to squeeze out every last drop of juice. A drizzle of honey was added for sweetness, with plenty of curious sniffs and taste tests along the way.
Now, we're drying out the lemon peels to use in upcoming craft and science activities - teaching the children about sustainability, creativity, and the importance of using the whole item without waste 🍋

Engaging children in planting vegetables offers a rich, hands-on learning experience that connects them with the natural world. As they dig into the soil, discover earthworms, and nurture sprouts into food, children gain a deeper understanding of where their meals come from and the journey from garden to plate. This process fosters environmental awareness, responsibility, and a sense of curiosity about ecosystems and sustainability. Gardening not only supports scientific learning and healthy eating habits but also encourages children to develop patience, care, and a meaningful connection to nature 🌱🪴🫛

We love offering children new and exciting art mediums to spark their creativity and imagination! Exploring different materials helps nurture curiosity and builds important skills through play.
Today we experimented with glue, salt, and watercolour to create vibrant, textured artwork.
This open ended process encouraged sensory exploration, fine motor development, and early scientific thinking as children observed how the salt absorbed the paint and created unique patterns.
