๐งช QotW: Energy Profiles & Catalysts (Unit 3)
This VCAA exam question looks straightforwardโฆ but itโs where a lot of students lose marks.
Common issues include:
โ
Incorrect drawing energy profile diagrams
โ
Confusing ฮH with activation energy
โ
Inaccurate graphing - poor reading of axes and vertical scale
โ
Weak explanations linking catalysts to collision theory
Great for a quick revision check

๐งช QotW: Hydrogen Fuel Cells (Unit 3)
This question looks straightforwardโฆ
โฆbut most students lose marks by:
โ Confusing anode and cathode polarity
โ Getting the cathode half-equation wrong
โ Misunderstanding fuel cell advantages and limitations

๐งช Short Tutorial โ DipoleโDipole Forces (Units 1โ4)
Sometimes itโs the simple concepts that hold students back in chemistry.
Understanding how covalent molecules attract one another underpins topics like boiling points, intermolecular forces, and organic chemistry.
I made a short 2-minute explanation for my classes this week.
Free to access, and feel free to share it with your students.

STAV Conference 2026 was full-on in the best way.
Between the VolkScience stand and the Beginning Teachers Toolbox session, it was non-stop conversations all day. I barely sat down.
So good to meet so many early-career teachers who are serious about getting their structure right from the start. The appetite for clear teaching sequences and practical classroom tools is strong.
A great group joined the VolkScience community yesterday, and more are coming on board this week.
If we didnโt get a proper chance to chat, feel free to email me directly. Always happy to keep the conversation going.
Big energy. Big year ahead.

๐งช QotW: Fuel Cells Revision (Unit 3)
Fuel cells are one of the trickier topics in exams.
This QotW breaks it down and covers:
โ
How hydrogen fuel cells produce electricity
โ
The redox reactions behind it
โ
How to tackle exam-style questions
