William Head, of the parish of Gondhurst, Kent, and Sarah Ellis, of Etchingham, Sussex, were married at Etchingham on 24th April 1838. They sailed for Australia in the schooner 'William Metcalfe' from Plymouth. Neither of them had ever seen London and neither ever returned to England to visit the Empire's capital. Today is the 185th anniversary of William and Sarah's arrival in Sydney, back in 1838, after a long journey from England.

In five short years the 190th anniversary will be here. Does anyone have any thoughts about doing something to celebrate this achievement?

Today we celebrate the 184th Anniversary of William and Sarah's arrival in Sydney, after their 109 day journey from Plymouth to start their new life together in Australia.

The young couple probably had to stay for a while in quarantine at the Immigrants Hostel in Sydney. William, having worked as an agricultural labourer in England later met John Gardiner, who had travelled up from Port Phillip and invited William and Sarah to work for him as as gardener and housekeeper back in Port Phillip.

Today, the 14th May, 184 years ago William and Sarah Head left Plymouth harbour on their way to a new life in Australia. The couple had only been married 20 days when they left on their 109 day journey aboard the schooner William Metcalfe.

In remembrance of William and Sarah, today is the 181st Anniversary of William & Sarah Head's arrival in Sydney in 1838. They travelled to Sydney on the schooner William Metcalfe from England. By early January 1839 they had travelled to Melbourne which had only been established in 1835. What a challenge for William and Sarah.

Today, the 31st August 2018, is the 180th Anniversary of William & Sarah Head's arrival in Sydney in 1838. They took three and half months to travel from England on the schooner William Metcalfe.

Coming up on Friday, 24th April 2015, it will be the 177th anniversary of William and Sarah's marriage at The Assumption of Blessed Mary and Saint Nicholas Parish Church in Etchingham, Sussex.

After setting out from Plymouth UK in May of 1838 on the schooner "William Metcalfe", today is the 176th anniversary of William and Sarah's arrival in Sydney.

On a recent trip through the back roads and towns in East Sussex, tracing the heritage of William and Sarah, we came across this very interesting signpost. The towns on the signpost pointed to Benenden (where William was baptised in 1817), Cranbrook (where William Senior died in 1873) and Hawkhurst (where Sarah Ellis was born in 1818). Continuing the 175th Anniversary celebrations of William & Sarah's arrival in Melbourne a picnic was held yesterday at Warrawee Park in Oakleigh. A great afternoon was had by all with Michele Allegretto from Vancouver and Mervyn Head having the honour of cutting the cake followed by a blessing from Rev Corrie Symington at the grave of William & Sarah.

Last night more than 50 cousins celebrated, at a dinner, the arrival of William & Sarah in Melbourne 175 years ago. Glenda O'Connor-Price was the lucky raffle winner to have the honour of cutting the 175th celebration cake. The cake was decorated in the same theme as the 1939 cake.

Hope to see you at the 175th picnic today in Oakleigh.

Today marks the 169th anniversary of the first interment for Henry Head in the St Andrew's historic churchyard, Brighton. Henry was third child of William & Sarah and died the day before, 8th November 1844 due to burns from a fire place accident. He was 18 months old.
