I am a lecturer at Macquarie University, conducting research on how small and medium-sized enterprises in Australia address the risks associated with modern slavery in their operations and supply chains.
As part of this study, I will be interviewing key stakeholders, including members from SEAANZ, to gain insights into the challenges and limitations of the disclosure-based approach to mitigating modern slavery risk mandated by the Australian Anti-Slavery Act 2018.
The project is scheduled to commence in January 2027, and I would be grateful if you could collaborate and support this research by referring me to your members.
Thank you very much for your support.
Kind regards,
Yaw

Small Enterprise Association of Australia and New Zealand
Founded in 1987 SEAANZ is dedicated to the advancement of small enterprise through research, education, policy and practice.
SEAANZ was founded in 1987 with the aim of bringing together Small and Medium Enterprise professionals in practice, education and training and to promote SME development, communication and dissemination of research, ideas and information. SEAANZhas cooperative relationships with the European Council for Small Business (ECSB) and the Asia Council for Small Business (ACSB). We maintain open dialogue with the International Council for Small Business (ICSB).
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the Australian and New Zealand economies, employing 42% of Australia’s workforce and 31% of New Zealand’s workers.
But rising costs, weak demand, digital disruption, tariff-driven trade tensions and inflation are pushing many small businesses to the brink of failure.

SCAM Sender ID INTRODUCED
As part of Australian Government’s efforts to combat SMS scams, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is introducing an SMS Sender ID Register. This will require any user of SMS Sender ID to register their IDs, or risk having their messages to customers marked as "Unverified" or, in future, "Likely Scam".
Registration will open on 30 November providing users two weeks to register their SMS Sender IDs before the register goes live on Monday 15 December, although an extension has been called for to allow better education of businesses and consumers.
Please reach out to me if you would like to discuss, and if you want further information about the proposal to extend, please reach out to Luke Coleman, CEO, at: [email protected].
