After 20 months of negotiations and no acceptable offer from the government early childhood teachers and educators took a 24 hour Statewide Stopwork.
Thank you to all the families at Yarralea for understanding the importance of a centre closure as staff took part in StopWork action.

We made something special today in Holiday Program
We talked about yeast. That if we feed it, it will grow and make our dough grow. We fed it some brown sugar in warm water, and after a while we saw the water started to become all bubbly and frothy as the yeast grew.
We poured our yeast into flour, and as we mixed we could see the soft dry flour turn into a sticky dough. We kneaded the dough and it started to become smooth and soft.
We put the dough back into the bowl and into a warm place for a long time, and it grew into a bigger ball of dough, ready to cook.
When it was cooked it was BREAD, which we ate with our afternoon tea. YUM
So much science in one delicious little loaf of bread

Yarralea Staff stopped work today to join in the AEU rally seeking fair pay and conditions after 17 months of negotiating. Be great when early childhood staff have pay parity with other education staff in schools with same training and similar roles. Thanks to the Yarralea community for supporting this important action! ❤️

Have you been watching our local celebrity couple?
We have!
In the Ash Room we have set up a screen streaming the live feed from the Peregrines' nest in Collins St.
The children have been able to watch the parent birds sitting on the eggs.
Sometimes the parents change shifts, as one bird returns from hunting to take a turn at sitting and the other bird flies away.
We have watched as the parents turn the eggs to make sure the tiny babies develop properly inside.
And we have watched lots of tiny people moving about in the city below.

In our beginning of term planning discussion with the Karook Arook children, we were asked if we could "make a bee home".
We researched together, and found that Australia has over 2000 species of native bee, many of which are being out-competed by the introduced European honey bee. The children decided which type of bee hotel they wanted to make, and with adult support (and important safety rules and precautions) they created this beautiful functional garden art. Hopefully the native bees will love it as much as we do.

This week we welcomed our next Seeing Eye Dog puppy into our Yarralea family 🦮
Introducing Zeena
Zeena arrived on Wednesday and has already started melting hearts. She is just 14 weeks old, and a little pocket rocket. She may be small, but she has a big personality and she's ready to share her spark with us
