At Hampton Park Secondary College, our teachers use chunking and sequencing concepts in small steps, a key strategy drawn from evidence-informed teaching practice, to carefully break complex learning into clear, manageable parts.
This helps students process new ideas without overload, make strong connections between concepts, and build understanding step by step with confidence.

This week, our Year 7 students had the opportunity to hear from keynote speaker Eric Agyeman and participate in interactive workshops focused on racism, respect and inclusion.
The session provided an important opportunity for students to reflect on the impact that words can have on others. Comments that may be intended as a joke can still hurt, exclude and cause lasting harm.
Through Ericβs presentation and workshops, students were encouraged to challenge their thinking, build empathy and understand how we can do better. The session has provided us with a valuable shared reference point that we can continue to draw upon in conversations about respect, acceptance and how we treat one another.
A big thank you to Eric for sharing his experiences, knowledge and message with our students. Together, we continue to work towards a school community where everyone feels safe, valued, respected and included.

At Hampton Park Secondary College, we use worked examples and co-construction in the Explicitly Teach phase of our Instructional Model to make learning clear and accessible. Teachers begin with fully worked examples, then guide students to compare and contrast good and less effective examples before gradually building solutions together through co-construction. This reduces cognitive overload, strengthens understanding, and builds confidence before students move into their practise and apply phase.

Yesterday the student leaders began their day at the state library, where they explored the treaty exhibition. Then students went to Parliament, where they met with Gary Maas MP for a tour and a cup of tea. The day ended with students observing an official question time which was an excellent experience!
