“I never thought of that before.” Sometimes the biggest improvements in singing come from very small adjustments. In this lesson we changed when the breath was prepared. See YouTube for full video and vocal warm ups with tips and instructions.

Try it on a song you sing.

This lip trill fifth slide is a basic, essential SOVT exercise for male voices. It helps balance airflow, reduce pressing, and support smoother register transitions. Use it before speaking, after heavy voice use, or 3–4 times daily for 2–5 minutes to help reset the voice. Save this and add it to your daily vocal routine. , , , , , , , , , ,

If your voice feels stiff or slow at the start of singing, this routine helps it respond faster. It wakes up articulation, builds chest voice strength, lightens head voice, and improves coordination without overthinking technique.

See the full warm up on YouTube and make it part of your regular singing routine.

A short pre-performance warm-up for male singers. This 4-minute routine helps the voice feel clear, coordinated, and ready to sing without fatigue.

Includes lip trills, SOVT slides, legato patterns, balanced onset work, and register-blending arpeggios.
The focus is efficiency, not effort. Smooth pitch changes, clean onsets, and connected tone in a short time.

Useful for male singers at any level, and for teachers or choir directors needing a quick, voice-friendly warm-up before rehearsal or performance.

Male vocal exercise for smoother transitions. A lot of singers think trouble with higher notes means they need more strength, more breath, or more effort. Most of the time, it does not.

What usually breaks down is coordination. The voice is being asked to change speed, pitch, and shape, but the body tries to hold everything steady instead. That is when tension shows up and things start to feel harder than they should.

This exercise is not about pushing higher or making the sound bigger. It is about letting the voice move more freely between registers while staying clear and connected. The speed of the pattern and the vowel change encourage responsiveness rather than control.

Light body movement can help because it shifts the work out of the throat and into the whole system. When the body is allowed to move, the voice often follows.

If this feels easier than what you normally do, that is not a shortcut. That is coordination improving.

This reaction is more common than you think. When chest voice starts working better, it often feels louder and unfamiliar at first. That’s not a red flag, it’s information.
Notice the response before you judge it.

This is a reaction I see all the time. When chest voice is working better, it often feels louder and unfamiliar at first. That doesn’t mean it’s wrong, it usually means something new is organising. In this clip from a live group class, I want you to notice the response, not judge it.
These are the reactions we want.

Grab my free singing resources and I’ll keep you posted about future group classes.

Why your breath sounds dry. This clip is from a live chest voice group class I ran on 22 Nov 2025, where we looked at breath efficiency, airflow, and why noisy breathing creates dryness at the vocal folds.

Quiet breathing isn’t about doing less. It’s about control and choice. If you want to explore this further see Dot Singing Breathing Exercises on YouTube.
