Professor Chris Burns taught me lessons in Gracie Jiu Jitsu and in Life…

 I first came to Verde Valley BJJ a complete novice to the art of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. I had never practiced any sort of martial art. I came to VVBJJ seeking a confidence-building challenge, physical exercise and to try something new. I was limited on my schedule because of work and decided to get weekly lessons from Professor Burns. He quickly took much of the “mystery” out of things for me and I can’t recommend highly enough that students take at least a few private lessons from Professor Burns during their training.

What began as sessions simply going through the syllabus quickly turned into lessons that blurred the lines between Jiu Jitsu and life. Professor Burns shared stories from his past that related to issues I was facing in life and proved to be a great sounding board for questions both on and off the mat, all while equipping me with the building blocks of Gracie Jiu Jitsu for Self Defense.

Professor Burns has an innate sense of knowing what each student needs, not only overall, but on any particular day. I’ve witnessed him working with teenagers and people in their 60’s and providing the perfect coaching & feedback for each. I am moving away from the area but plan to continue my lessons with Professor Burns and appreciate all he offers to the community and his students. I genuinely can’t say enough good things about the influence he has.
