Last year, our 3-year-old learners took on a meaningful STEM inquiry project: “Saving Private Snail – How can we protect a snail from being crushed?”
After discovering a crushed snail on our walk to the local park, the children became inspired to find ways to keep snails safe. Over the course of three months, they explored, hypothesised, designed, built, and tested a wide range of designs using various materials. Their aim was to create a structure strong enough to withstand a person’s step while protecting the small creature inside.
Through hands-on experimentation and plenty of trial and error, the children developed creative solutions and deepened their understanding of problem-solving and design.
To conclude the project, the children reflected on their work, sharing their favourite materials and designs, and explaining their thinking.
This inquiry fostered key STEM skills, including planning, resilience, critical thinking, and creativity. We’re incredibly proud of the children’s dedication—and grateful to the families who supported their learning along the way!

**A No-Stress Book Week Celebration**
At Brenbeal, we believe the true meaning of Book Week is to celebrate stories. We also know our families are busy, so we opted for a stress-free event this year. No costumes, just books! We invited families to share their favourite books from home, and the response was wonderful. In every room, we had parents come to read to the children, and they all loved the opportunity to hear lots and lots of stories.
Here is sample of a very interesting story that Barriamal children (Kindergarten) made on their own.
