🐉🎋 Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 🎋🐉

Today at Waverley Kidz, we celebrated Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, with joy, learning, and cultural discovery. The children began by group discuss to learn about the meaning of the festival and the story of Qu Yuan, helping them understand why this special day is remembered.

We then explored how traditional sticky rice dumplings (Zongzi) are made. Families were invited to join us and generously shared their knowledge and skills in making date Zongzi. The children watched closely, asked questions, and then had a hands-on opportunity to help prepare and wrap the dumplings.

Throughout the day, the children showed curiosity, excitement, and great engagement as they experienced this cultural tradition together.

At Waverley Kidz, our Firefighter Day invited children into a world of imaginative play while strengthening their early literacy and numeracy skills. During group time, we explored fire safety together and discussed how firefighters support and protect our community.

Children moved through an exciting obstacle course where they balanced on cones, crawled across a bridge, drove the fire engine toy, and sprayed water at the numbers 1–5. They also dressed up as firefighters and practised recognising the letter F by searching for F‑spots among other letters and spraying water at the ones that matched. As they played, the children joyfully sang “Hurry, hurry, where is the fire”, adding energy and enthusiasm to the experience.

The children were highly engaged throughout the session, combining physical play with meaningful early literacy and numeracy learning opportunities.

Kirti Soni
Hello, My name is Kirti and I am a Kindergarten Teacher here at Waverley Kidz Children’s Centre. My educational background is that I hold a Graduate Diploma In Early Childhood, a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Accounting. I have also acquired Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from Monash University in 2025.
I have been privileged to be a Mentor and Assessor to many students, pre-service teachers, and existing staff. I have been awarded a Mentor’s award from Monash University in the year 2024.
I have moved here from New Zealand in 2023 and possess more than nine years of experience in Early Childhood sector. When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, cooking, going for walks, spend time with family. I have two boys age 16 and 14 years old.
I have been with Waverley Kidz Children’s Centre from the past three and half years and I thoroughly enjoy this small beautifully close knit community. I believe working in partnership with the families to develop the relationship of trust and understanding so to meet the needs of the children.
My philosophy as a Kindergarten teacher is inspired from Reggio Emilia approach considering the child in the Centre and the environment as the third teacher. I aim to provide play-based learning opportunities which supports in widening the horizon of children’s thinking, analysing and reasoning skills. Within the diverse and multicultural community, I believe that providing an inclusive environment ensures children to develop a vision of acceptance and respect towards other cultures.
I look forward to meet you and greet you at the Centre.

Mother's Day celebration at Waverley Kidz.

We were thrilled to gather as a community on Friday for a heartfelt Mother’s Day Morning Tea, filled with joy, creativity, and meaningful connection. Families, grandparents, and loved ones joined in to celebrate and honour the important role mothers and mother‑figures hold in our lives.

Throughout the morning, children and families took part in a variety of special activities, enjoying hands‑on crafts, shared games, and meaningful moments together. Highlights included our cooking session, where families prepared and savoured delicious treats, creating scented candles, and capturing memories at the photo booth — all while spending quality time with one another.

It was heart‑warming to see children proudly engaging with their families, and to watch grandparents and extended family members join in the celebration. Events like this remind us how important community is, and how much we value the relationships that support our children every day.

Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make the day so memorable. We appreciate your ongoing support and look forward to many more opportunities to come together as a community.

Warm regards,
Waverley Kidz Team.

Hello, my name is Po. I hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. I am the Room Leader in the Lamb Room (Nursery) and also a Child Safety and Wellbeing Champion at Waverley Kidz Children’s Centre.
I am passionate about supporting children in their early development and creating a safe, calm, and nurturing environment. In the nursery room, children’s safety is always our highest priority. I focus on ensuring that every child feels secure, well cared for, and happy throughout the day. I also support healthy eating habits and maintain a smooth and consistent daily routine to help children feel comfortable and settled.
