📚🔬 Book Week Meets Science Week in Our Toddler Room! 🚤🥕

What an exciting week we've had in the Toddler Room at Waverley Kidz Children's Centre as we celebrated Book Week and Science Week together through stories, role play, and hands-on discovery.

We were delighted to introduce the beautiful story "Who Sank the Boat?" After reading the book together, we created our very own boat for the children to explore. They loved climbing aboard, using their imaginations, and bringing the story to life through role play with their friends and teachers.

Our learning then continued with a fun Science Week experiment called "Save the Carrot!" 🥕

The children discovered that a carrot sinks in water, and together we wondered, "How can we save its life?" They placed three short straws into the carrot, just like the air inside a life jacket, and were amazed to see the carrot float!

This simple experiment encouraged the children to ask questions, make predictions, solve problems, and experience the excitement of scientific discovery. Watching their surprise, curiosity, and joy made it a wonderful learning experience for everyone.

What a fantastic week of imagination, exploration, and learning through play! 💙

✨ Dress-Up Day Fun at Waverley Kidz! ✨

What a wonderful day we've had at Waverley Kidz Children's Centre! Our children had so much fun exploring their imaginations during our Dress-Up Session.

From superheroes and fairies to animals and storybook characters, everyone enjoyed becoming someone new for the day. Together we read stories, danced, sang with our teachers, and shared lots of smiles and laughter.

It's always so special to see our children building confidence, creativity, and friendships through imaginative play.

What a happy and magical time we had! 💛

At Waverley Kidz, we are currently offering a free yoga incursions for the children. Our chef, Lauren, who is also a qualified yoga instructor, is leading the sessions.

Lauren combined yoga with stretching, movement, deep breathing and a range of playful, age appropriate poses. The children listen closely, follow her guidance and practise stretching their arms, legs and whole bodies. They explore different poses, work on balancing their bodies and use slow, deep breaths to support calmness and relaxation. Songs and actions are woven into the session, keeping it engaging and enjoyable.

This incursion continues to support the children’s flexibility, balance, coordination, body awareness and gross motor development. It also encourages concentration, emotional regulation and early mindfulness.

🔬 Science Week at Waverley Kidz 🧪
During Science Week, the children explored a range of exciting, hands-on experiments:
🦠 How Soap Works Against Germs
Children drew hands on paper plates and added pepper to represent germs. When soap was added, the “germs” quickly moved away!
🍊 Rescue the Mandarin
Children discovered that a mandarin with its skin floats, while a peeled mandarin sinks. They then worked together to “rescue” it!
🐟 Swimming Fish Experiment
The paper fish stayed still in the water, but when we added soap, it began to swim.
🎈 Blowing Up a Balloon
Children mixed baking soda and vinegar and watched the reaction create gas that inflated a balloon.
⚡ Static Electricity Experiment
After rubbing a balloon on their hair, children used it to attract small pieces of paper.
🧁 Cupcake Day and Colour Mixing
We also celebrated Cupcake Day by exploring colour mixing while decorating our cupcakes.
The children developed their curiosity, prediction, observation and problem-solving skills through these fun experiences. What a wonderful week of scientific discovery at Waverley Kidz! 🌟

🐉🎋 Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 🎋🐉

Today at Waverley Kidz, we celebrated Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, with joy, learning, and cultural discovery. The children began by group discuss to learn about the meaning of the festival and the story of Qu Yuan, helping them understand why this special day is remembered.

We then explored how traditional sticky rice dumplings (Zongzi) are made. Families were invited to join us and generously shared their knowledge and skills in making date Zongzi. The children watched closely, asked questions, and then had a hands-on opportunity to help prepare and wrap the dumplings.

Throughout the day, the children showed curiosity, excitement, and great engagement as they experienced this cultural tradition together.

At Waverley Kidz, our Firefighter Day invited children into a world of imaginative play while strengthening their early literacy and numeracy skills. During group time, we explored fire safety together and discussed how firefighters support and protect our community.

Children moved through an exciting obstacle course where they balanced on cones, crawled across a bridge, drove the fire engine toy, and sprayed water at the numbers 1–5. They also dressed up as firefighters and practised recognising the letter F by searching for F‑spots among other letters and spraying water at the ones that matched. As they played, the children joyfully sang “Hurry, hurry, where is the fire”, adding energy and enthusiasm to the experience.

The children were highly engaged throughout the session, combining physical play with meaningful early literacy and numeracy learning opportunities.
