Congratulations Ranvir and well deserved!

Please join us in giving a big round of applause to Sparkways' very own Sarai for being recognised as one of Australia's best educators! In a recent article in The Mercury, she was acknowledged among 50 of the country's most inspiring teachers. Check out the article here: http://ow.ly/ol3x50OhTAQ

This is an incredibly well-deserved achievement. Ranvir's commitment to excellence in education is undeniable; like all of our eductaors she consistently goes the extra mile to ensure her students receive an exceptional learning experience, and her influence on their lives is immeasurable.

Way to go, Ranvir!

Sparkways Early Learning Showgrounds met with our local police in a community focused event “Coffee with a Cop”.
Members from our community are invited to meet with our friendly local Police Officers for a casual chat about policing issues, seek advice or raise any concerns in the local community.
Police had conversations with the children on road safety and reminded them on who they could call and how to call for an emergency.
Interactions like this not only help children build positive relationships with members of their local community but also help children become connected with their world as they develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.

R U OK? DAY 💛💛💛

Today we are reminded to ask and check in with those around us and start a meaningful conversation simply by asking ”are you Ok?”

We can all play a role in supporting the people in our world.

Book Week at Showgrounds Early Learning was a blast! Book Week is an opportunity for children to really grow an appreciation of books and to reinforce the love of literacy and the importance of reading to learn.

Children visited our local libraries; brought in their favourite story books from home and of course got to dress up as they favourite book character to partake in the Showgrounds Book Week Parade.

This term all children participated in the Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge too so Book Week was a fitting end to celebrate their achievement!

Sparkways Early Learning Showgrounds acknowledged National Science Week where we celebrated all things science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

STEM experiences are not only fascinating but spark such curiosity and learning.

This year’s theme was ‘GLASS’ so educators set intentional experiences where children could explore all concepts glass.

Children made edible glass; watched rain formation and created different sounds with glass. We also set up the volcano experiment using glass vases as the volcano.

Lots of curious minds got to thinking and wondering how these experiments worked. Exploring scientific concepts helps children use reflective thinking to consider why things happen and make predictions and generalisations. Overall it helps develop a range of skills and processes such as inquiry, researching and investigating.

Today at Showgrounds Early Learning we celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.

We showed our support through children immersing themselves in outdoor play and exploring many aspects of the natural environment.

The Koala and Kookaburra children visited our local park where educators read stories and children listened to in the tranquil of nature. They also enjoyed lunch in the park.

While our Joey, Bilby, Possum and Emu groups enjoyed lunch outdoors, they also participated in creating nature bracelets and commemorating the Aboriginal culture with hand prints using the colours of the Aboriginal flag and placed in our garden.

At Showgrounds Early Learning we understand the importance of supporting children to connect with and contribute to their world…and what better way to do this other than taking the children out on excursions to actively participate in their local community!

So today, we caught the tram and headed to Flemington Library for the weekly ‘Storytime’ session.

For some it was their first time on a tram so it was very exciting!

‘Storytime’ provides an opportunity for children to be introduced to a wide selection of picture books and stories as well as help prepare children for primary school, developing listening, reading and fine motor skills.

Living and learning in our local community!
