What is Art Therapy? Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy providing a means for self-exploration and expression using art materials - Where words may fail us, images provide deeper expression and meaning. In an art therapy session you can expect to be supported by a counsellor to use art materials in an intuitive manner. No artist ability is required and the outcome of the experience is not intended to help you create a great work of art, it is, instead, to help you explore and process experiences to help you create meaningful relationships and a meaningful life. At Nurture, Counselling and Art Therapy practices are informed by many other approaches including psychodynamic, behavioural (CBT & DBT), mindfulness, focusing, gestalt, interpersonal, trauma-informed and expressive therapies. Nurture Counselling and Art Therapy does not psychoanalyse or interpret you or your art-based products but will guide you gently to find your own answers. If you are not wanting to use art materials in a session, Nurture can provide a verbal counselling practice. WHERE ARE WE? At present Nurture Counselling and Art Therapy are looking for a new practice space, a space to provide warmth and safety, a space to nurture our clients. Whilst this search continues, Nurture can offer outreach sessions, coming to your home, workplace, school, or other site where you feel comfortable to share.
