Formed in Melbourne at the end of 2011 after LA based acting coach Howard Fine taught his first Master Class in Australia, the Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia provides award-winning, technique driven actor training. Our training is delivered by members of the Howard Fine Acting Studio faculty from both LA and Australia, and we offer short courses, full time and part time training. Through our

training, we aim to make you a self-reliant actor, able to perform at the highest levels within the industry, and we place a strong emphasis on creating a supportive community and a safe learning environment.

Designed for experienced actors, this application-only class is fast-paced and deliberately demanding. You’ll work on three scenes across six weeks, with new material and a new scene partner every two weeks.

The focus is on staying open, responding to direction, committing to choices and adapting in the moment, essential skills in the rehearsal room and on set.

Actors often ask how to get better at script analysis.

Our answer is surprisingly simple: READ MORE.

The more you read, the stronger your reading comprehension becomes. And reading comprehension is what allows you to recognise the clues a writer has carefully placed throughout a script: relationships, circumstances, objectives, events and subtext.

One of Howard's favourite exercises is to write your own short scene.

Not because you need to become a playwright, but because you'll discover how much thought goes into every choice. Only then do you fully appreciate the responsibility an actor has to understand why those choices were made.

Great acting isn't just about emotion. It's about understanding the story the writer has already written.

Read widely. Study deeply. Stay curious.

A heartfelt thank you to Carla Gugino for joining us at the Howard Fine Acting Studio.

We know how incredibly busy filming schedules can be, so it was a true privilege to have Carla take the time to spend an afternoon with our students and community.

Thank you for your generosity, honesty and thoughtful insights into the craft, and for answering so many questions with warmth and openness. It was an inspiring conversation, and one that will stay with many of us for a long time.

We’re also grateful to Howard Fine for facilitating this special opportunity and to everyone who joined us for such a memorable afternoon.

Huge congratulations to our Feb 2026 Part Time Graduates 🎉👏

Today marks the end of six months of dedication, courage and hard work. Since beginning their training in February, they’ve challenged themselves, supported one another and grown enormously as actors.
