Over the past two weeks, children across all rooms have been actively celebrating Nature Play Week through hands-on, sensory-rich experiences. Our children explored natural materials in many meaningful ways โ playing with autumn leaves, pinecones, seed pods, bark, and other nature treasures. They enjoyed leaf play outdoors, water play, and creative learning experiences using natural loose parts. Some children created and explored nature collages and insect-inspired art, while others engaged in small world play with dinosaurs, plants, and natural items. The children also participated in group learning experiences, where they matched and discussed different autumn nature items such as red leaves, brown leaves, chestnuts, seed pods, and pinecones. These activities supported curiosity, sensory exploration, language development, creativity, and a deeper connection with the natural world. It has been wonderful to see children from all rooms learning through play, discovery, and exploration in nature.

During the week of Anzac Day, we explored its meaning through discussions, watching the parade to the Shrine of Remembrance on YouTube, and reading What Will I See on Anzac Day by Emily Small. Our focus was on gratitude, mateship, and peace, helping children understand the importance of this national day and how it contributes to Australia and New Zealand being safe and peaceful places to live. We reflected on the courage and sacrifice of veterans, introduced real medals and a veteranโs jacket, and discussed what it means to โlive in peace.โ
The children engaged in a range of hands-on experiences, including creating poppies, making individual wreaths, and collaborating on a group poster titled โLest We Forget.โ They explored the maps of Australia and New Zealand, added images of veterans, and proudly wore poppies on their chests. To conclude, we practised singing the Australian national anthem and observed a minuteโs silence to honour and thank those who served.

This month, children explored the life cycle of an apple tree through hands-on and engaging experiences.
A learning table with books, pictures, and real apples encouraged sensory exploration, discussions, and curiosity about how apples grow and why fruits are important for our health.
Children developed fine motor skills through a lacing apple activity and explored early math concepts by sorting apples by size.
The experience was extended through creative art, where children painted apples and sequenced the stages of the apple tree's life cycle.
A wonderful month of learning, creativity, and discovery!

Our 3-year-olds, Smarties, have been exploring how to recycle and reuse materials through creative play and art. Using their imagination, children transformed everyday resources into amazing creations โ โdinosaurs,โ โdiggers,โ a โhouse,โ a โlion,โ a โbuilding,โ and even a โtree.โ
This experience supports childrenโs understanding of sustainability while encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression. ๐ฑ๐จ

Using natural and recycled materials in early learning years of education supports childrenโs overall development. These resources foster creativity, build fine and gross motor skills, and enhance problem-solving and memory. They also offer valuable opportunities to explore science concepts through hands-on play. Nature-based experiences nurture curiosity, a sense of wonder, and respect for the environment.
Additionally, they support sensory and physical development while promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
