It’s a New Dawn.
It’s a New Day.
It’s a New Commission for me.
And I’m feeling good.
If it’s snot right, it’s snot right.
After a long break, beginner and intermediate weekly pottery classes finally return the Abbotsford Convent Studio with .studio.

Almost finished
Added a little height, completely lost the round form and eventually got it. Almost finished. I think i mess us the proportions. This is closer to a traditional ongi form but I think wanted a small base to collect the sediment from the fish sauce. 🤦🏽♀️

I was honestly super apprehensive about starting this project.
Making Onggi pots comes with a lot of weight — questions around cultural appropriation, respect, and doing things the right way kept circling in my head.
Then there was the technical side… using the right clay, getting back on the wheel after a long break, and attempting something this large for the first time since COVID. It felt like a lot.
I probably did too much research — a lot of glaze testing and if I’m being real, some of it was just procrastination disguised as preparation.
But here we are.
Still learning, still figuring it out — but it feels good to finally begin.

I’ve just taken on a commission to create three large fish sauce fermentation pots for the Fish Sauce project with — and to be honest, it felt a little daunting at first.
Having never seen a traditional onggi up close, we made a trip to what must be one of the most incredible working collections of onggi in Australia.
Rows of vessels in every size, shape, and age — all made in Korea, each one carrying its own quiet history. Earthenware forms, wood ash glazes, terracotta tones… simple, functional, and deeply beautiful.
Huge thanks to for your time and generosity. I walked away feeling inspired — and a lot less intimidated by the task ahead.
