Snapshots from the classroom.

In 6B, students have been drafting their Space Dragons narratives, following a series of images to develop their stories. They have taken part in rich discussions with their peers about vocabulary and narrative structure. A key focus has been on upgrading verbs, adjectives and adverbs, as well as using language devices such as imagery, alliteration and repetition to make their writing more descriptive and engaging.

In Mandarin, learners had lots of fun exploring insect vocabulary through a range of engaging, hands-on activities. Students practised their listening skills through a lively Fly Swatter game, listening carefully to each word and quickly identifying the matching insect picture. Working with partners, they then matched Chinese words with the correct pictures, strengthening their recognition and understanding of the vocabulary. To consolidate their learning, students drew each insect in the correct box by using both Chinese characters and pinyin as clues. These interactive activities provided an enjoyable way for learners to revisit, practise and consolidate their knowledge while building confidence in recognising Mandarin vocabulary.

5B had a wonderful time celebrating with our Foundation buddies at our Teddy Bear Picnic! Students were encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bears from home to share with their buddy. They enjoyed spending time together, reading stories, playing games and talking about their teddy bears. It was lovely to see 5B students being positive role models, showing kindness, patience and responsibility while supporting their younger buddies. Everyone had a fantastic time, and it was a great opportunity for students to build friendships and strengthen our buddy program!

Last week, our Foundation students were very excited to spend some time with children’s author Meredith Costain, in preparation for our Author Study unit in Term 4. Meredith is known for her series of books ‘The Ella Diaries’. During the presentation we learned about the process of writing and illustration, where authors get their ideas for stories and how illustrations help extend the storytelling. We also loved acting out one of Meredith’s stories with props and costumes! We are really looking forward to learning more about authors in Term 4.

In STEM, students have been exploring Forces, Sound, Heat and Temperature, and Chemical Sciences. Foundation students have been engaged with hands on learning around push and pull forces. It has been fun to see grade 2 students making Kazoos and discussing sound vibration, whilst Grade 3 students have been exploring Heat and Temperature using thermometers. Grade 4 Students are looking into materials and their properties and will be planning and conducting their own 'fair tests'. Students explored the 'particle model' using the water cycle in Grade 5 and it was very hard to choose which ones to share as they were all AMAZING. Grade 6 looked at evaporation and wrote up their reports and conducted their experiments, some have shown lots of Salt Crystals left behind while others not so much...we are still wondering why...
