At Gulgong Public School, Stage 3 students are using mini anchor charts to make self-assessment visible and meaningful. After completing a series of activities, students use their mini-anchor chart to check accuracy, reflect on learning and refine their writing.

Swipe to see the process:

Image 1/Cover Image: Heat Map: Students share what they already know to activate prior knowledge.

Image 2 & 3 – Figurative Language Sort: Students categorise examples of figurative language to deepen understanding.

Image 4 – Mini Anchor Chart: Students use their personal chart to check accuracy, annotate and refine their writing.

Mini anchor charts put learning directly in students’ hands, making it portable, personal and powerful.

Maybe it’s time to let students do more of the talking. 💬

📚 When students take the lead in assessment, reflection becomes part of the learning process. At Trinity Gardens School, the Year 6 Team have been helping students move toward increased independence as reflectors ‘in and on’ their learning using strategies from Frame 1.

✨ Key steps in their journey:
1️⃣ Student Clarity – Students connect learning intentions and success criteria to familiar language and goal-setting strategies.
2️⃣ Tools & Processes – Posters and prompts guide reflection throughout the day, supporting both students and teachers.
3️⃣ Student Voice for Assessment – Surveys give students insight into their own learning and help them set goals.
