National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
This year’s theme, “All In”, is a call for every Australian to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation, not just this week, but every single day.
All the activity details are in the captions, swipe through the photos for a little inspo!👇
🍃 Nature Loose Parts Sensory Tray
Collect natural materials from your backyard or local park like leaves, bark, stones, shells and seeds. Let little ones explore freely through touch and smell
🌍 Earthy Playdough in Ochre Colours
Make homemade playdough in red, yellow and brown. Add natural loose parts like seeds and leaves for texture and encourage children to create their own patterns
🍂 Bark and Stick Nature Art
Collect sticks and strips of bark or leaves from outside and help children decorate and weave them together.
🐚 Reconciliation Treasure Basket
Fill a basket with natural items like shells, seeds, smooth stones and wooden objects. For older children, use each item as a prompt to talk about Country, culture and respect.
We know access to some of these materials might be limited and that is completely okay! You could also try googling native Australian ingredients and materials together with the children and having a conversation about what they are, where they come from and why they are significant to First Nations peoples.
