The University of Melbourne received the worst ranking in Australia from students about freedom of expression.

A recent report summarising the results of this question in the QILT Student Experience Survey slams the University based on responses from both domestic undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The UMSU International Elections are almost here, and we've put together a short explainer covering everything you need to know before the voting starts. ✨🗳️

Voting is open from 9AM Wed 20 May to 5PM Fri 22 May.

Eligible voters (all international students studying at the University of Melbourne) will be sent a personalised voting link to their student email.

Want to hear from the candidates? Join us this afternoon for the UMSU International Policy Speech Session to ask questions, hear different perspectives, and get to know the candidates. The session will be recorded and posted on the UMSU website after completion.

Apology to our trans and gender diverse community.

UMSU wishes to acknowledge and formally address the concerns raised recently by student members of our trans and gender diverse community. This was about Transgender Day of Visibility and the way some of our events were promoted, which did not reflect the visibility that trans and gender diverse students deserve.

UMSU wishes to extend a sincere apology for the hurt caused to our trans and gender diverse community. Student voice is at the centre of everything UMSU does, and as an organisation of elected representatives, we have a responsibility to listen to, and incorporate, feedback.

We have started consultation with some members of the trans community as to how to rebuild trust with trans and gender diverse students through consultation and action.

Further details on this will be communicated in due course.

Another beautiful week coming up for UniMelb’s students (as long as you forget about lectures and mid-sems and group assignments and tutorials and 😭). Take a break for some free food and good times ☺️

The Div Manager, Student Representation provides strategic leadership and expert advice regarding UMSU’s operational, governance, campaign and compliance obligations; fosters positive workplace relations between elected student representatives and staff at UMSU; and supports student representative driven campaigns.
