Cornish College educates for a sustainable future, engaging Early Learning to Year 12 students and encouraging them to consider how their decisions impact the world around them. It offers a holistic education that sees students engage deeply across disciplines, critically identifying and evaluating problems and finding creative solutions. Its unique learning environment and well-rounded education

ensures students become the best people they can be, with a powerful curriculum and passionate teachers that develop critical thinking skills in students, empowering them to make a difference today for a sustainable tomorrow. Cornish’s extensive 100-acre setting provides students with space to stretch their legs and their curiosity throughout an EcoCentre, hobby farm, olive grove, orchard, vegetable gardens, nine-hole golf course and its own island. Other facilities include the well-resourced library, ICT and performing arts facilities, a gymnasium, science laboratories, sporting facilities and a new Senior Studies Centre — a powerful learning environment. The College favours a holistic approach which values student health and wellbeing as much as academics. Students explore diverse interests alongside their academics, with cocurricular opportunities spanning the arts, STEM and sport, and community programs to develop positive relationships and mental health. These enrich the curriculum, encouraging students to draw upon values of compassion, integrity, respect and creativity — always with courage – to make a difference. Cornish educates for a sustainable, thriving future, with structures that mobilise the attitudes, skills, knowledge and values required for young people to make a difference and become the best individuals they have the capacity to be.

Last week, we celebrated some of the great Cornish Dads with a morning of BBQ breakfast, lawn games and, of course, some very special handmade gifts and cards.

A beautiful morning spent celebrating the dads and father figures who mean so much to our students. What a way to start the day and finish the week! 💙

Every day in Prep is filled with moments of discovery.

This term, our students have been strengthening their literacy skills by decoding more complex words, building confidence with multisyllabic reading, learning new "heart words" and creating richer sentences using connectives like and, but and because.

In Mathematics, they've been developing strong number sense through counting forwards and backwards, exploring doubles and recognising skip-counting patterns in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Their Inquiry learning has also taken them on an exciting journey through the animal kingdom, exploring habitats and discovering how different adaptations help animals survive around the world.

It's wonderful to see curiosity growing alongside confidence as our youngest learners continue to build strong foundations for the future.

Happy Father’s Day

Today we celebrate all the dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, father figures, mentors and special people who show up, cheer loudly, lend a helping hand and make a difference in the lives of our students.

To the Cornish dads and father figures in our community, thank you for the love, laughter, encouragement and countless little moments that mean so much.

We hope you have a wonderful Father’s Day, filled with good company, plenty of laughs and some well-deserved time together.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Cornish.

Making their mark in Division A!

Cornish athletes have made an impressive start to life in Division A, finishing sixth overall at the SIS Athletics Championships.

Competing against some of the strongest schools in the division, our students showed determination, sportsmanship and plenty of school spirit throughout the day.

A standout achievement came from our Under 14 Boys and Under 17 Girls teams, who each secured a pennant in their respective divisions.

It was a fantastic result in our first year competing in Division A, reflecting the commitment of our athletes and the strength of our athletics program.

A special acknowledgement to Athletics Captain Emma, every student who stepped up to compete across events, and the staff who supported the team throughout the day.

A strong first step in Division A, and plenty to build on 💪

What makes a simulation feel like real life?

That's the question our students are exploring in this Design Futures Super Study, where they're investigating simulations, probability, predictability and chance.

Students have been analysing their favourite simulation games, unpacking the mechanics behind them and sharing ideas with one another before designing their own.

By the end of the term, each student will have created an original simulation while applying mathematical concepts of probability and chance through a range of digital tools.

It's a perfect example of creativity, critical thinking and real-world problem solving coming together.

What if your classroom could be a river, a forest, a goldfield, or a place to test an idea? 🌿

At Cornish, Year 5 learning is designed to take students beyond the classroom and into the real world, where learning has purpose, challenges are real and their actions can make a difference.

Across the year, students become citizen scientists monitoring the Patterson River, investigate local biodiversity, learn survival skills, recreate life on the Goldfields and take on challenges that ask them to design, build, test, adapt and try again.

It’s science, literacy, history, design and First Nations perspectives, all connected through hands-on experiences and a deepening connection to Country and community.

Because when students are trusted to explore, solve problems and take responsibility, they don’t just learn about the world.

They learn how to contribute to it.

That’s learning, different, by design. 🌏

Today we celebrate the people who help make the very first steps in a child’s learning journey so meaningful.

Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day!

This year’s theme, “The Future Starts With Us!”, is a beautiful reminder of the important role early childhood educators play in nurturing curiosity, building confidence and creating a lifelong love of learning.

At Cornish, our Early Learning teachers create an environment where children are encouraged to wonder, explore, question and make sense of the world around them, laying the foundations for the learners they will become.

To our incredible ELC teaching team, thank you for the care, creativity, patience and joy you bring to learning every day 💚

The future really does start with you!

The first day of spring calls for a change of scenery! ☀️

Our Prep students took their spelling and writing workbooks outside, swapping the classroom for sunshine, fresh air and plenty of space to learn.

And it turns out, there’s more to a change of scenery than simply enjoying a sunny day. Research increasingly suggests that outdoor learning can support attention, focus and academic engagement!

Because sometimes, a little fresh air is all it takes to make learning feel that little bit more special.

Turn it up! 🎸🥁

As part of their DFE3 Rock Band Passport, Years 8 and 9 students are getting hands-on with guitar, bass, piano and drums, building the skills and repertoire to take into a rock band setting—or simply enjoy making music for themselves.

This week, a Guitar & Bass Masterclass gave students the chance to develop their skills and explore the sounds that bring a band together.

Learning music, one instrument at a time.

Our Year 4 students are growing more than just plants - they’re helping grow the future of one of Victoria’s rarest species. 🌱

As part of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria’s Raising Rarity conservation program, students are growing Craspedia canens (Grey Billy Buttons), a native plant that is critically endangered in Victoria.

From caring for and monitoring their plants to collecting and recording growth data, our students are stepping into the role of young conservation scientists. At the end of the growing process, they’ll collect seeds to return to the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria Seed Bank, helping safeguard the species for the future.

It’s hands-on conservation in action — and a wonderful reminder that protecting our natural world isn’t just something we learn about. It’s something we can actively be part of. 🌿
