Dojo is only open to friends and their family unfortunately for the public but great for my friends
Your Karate should be able to work in any space! Got a new Karate Dojo open to the public now, Arden Street North Melbourne incorporating Hanbo Jutsu as well: https://www.smartfishgo.com/
You should be able to do defence in any environment, plus there is no such thing as a perfect defence a knife or sharp object.
However here are principles in this video to help you understand how to deal with a sharp or bladed or intrusive attack.
Just a short showreel of things we cover re-edited back in the Kyokushin part as that is a major part of our system!
Thanks so much for helping in my demonstration on tai sabaki (body evasion movements) entries, balance breaking, covering and weapon handling! You should be able to do this without getting into a fighting stance, you should be able to do it from standing naturally as you choose to negotiate & calm the person down and desculate but be prepared (without showing in your body language) if it comes to it. A few applications of Tai Sabaki, hope you enjoy!
2 groin kick defences and a grab defence in the middle.
Practicing a bit of Hanbo flow
The short sharp version of handling someone who has a concealed weapon. No one has a full proof way. I hope these principles help you stay alive if you are lucky enough to.
Well if you are super unlucky to be home invaded and super lucky to have survived an ambush knife attack when you hear a noise and investigate whats going on well here are some principles using the Hanbo or any hard stick you got around. Some principles might be helpful.
No one has a perfect solution for people who conceal weapons or unarmed against weapons a knife or a edged weapon especially if the attacker deceives you with a strike to get you thinking elsewhere from where they want to attack you. These are just 3 simple principles of why it is really important to practice Tai Sabaki even if so say you are sparring in a Sports Ju Jutsu or MMA context, start using Tai Sabaki under pressure so you develop it instinctively. Also for Senior students notice the bicep cup and other variant using your other hand at their tricep means if you have developed sensitivity you can hopefully (in a real situation anything that could go wrong will go wrong) you can "feel" the next movement not only creating a frame. The aim is simply to survive. Osu! Thanks!
Some more Hanbo Jutsu just playing around with some Hanbo flow!
A bit of Hanbo (3 foot stick) Jutsu practice!
