Reconciliation week

During Reconciliation week, we transformed our old cubby house into Aboriginal meeting place to encourage learning through play, connection and respect.

During National Reconciliation Week, we learned about Australia Native culture, places and ways to represent the information using symbols. We identified places in our community and used Aboriginal symbols to match those places. We used painting, writing and crafting to create a picture of our country and put our art work together with our heart All In to learn about our community.
We spot the rainbows, sun, Sandhills, yarra, kororoit creek, meeting places and all we know about Brimbank in this artwork.

Our veggie and herb garden is flourishing, and we have our wonderful green-thumbed educator, Peta, to thank for helping keep it thriving alongside our Kinder 1 and Kinder 2 educators.

This week, our Kinder 1 children were excited to harvest fresh green beans from the veggie patch. There were lots of smiles as the children carefully picked the beans they had helped nurture and grow.

Gardening provides children with valuable opportunities to learn about sustainability, healthy eating, responsibility, and caring for the environment. We love watching our little gardeners develop confidence and curiosity as they connect with nature through hands-on experiences.

🌿 Growing food, growing knowledge, and growing together!

We'd love to hear from you! Tell us in the comments which herb you're growing at home.

💜 Help a Family This Winter 💜

This winter, Goodstart Derrimut is collecting non-perishable food and household essentials to support local families in need.

If you’re able to contribute, donations can be dropped off in the centre foyer. Every donation, big or small, can make a real difference to a family doing it tough this winter.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

.derrimut, Today, the children went on an exciting excursion to Essendon Traffic School where they learnt about important road safety rules in a fun and engaging way.

The children were introduced to the important safety rule: “Stop, Look, Listen and Think.” They discussed how to stay vigilant and aware at all times when near roads and traffic. One of the most exciting parts of the excursion was riding the bikes around the traffic tracks.

It was wonderful to see the children learning through hands-on experiences while building their confidence and understanding of road safety.

In Nursery 2, we have created an inviting liquid transfer experience for the children to explore through play. Using cups, coloured water, and a variety of containers, children are encouraged to pour, fill, empty, and transfer at their own pace.
This experience supports children’s developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and early problem-solving as they experiment with cause and effect. It also introduces early concepts of volume, capacity, and movement in a meaningful and hands-on way.
The children showed curiosity and focus as they investigated different ways to pour and transfer the liquid between containers. They remained engaged throughout the experience, building confidence, independence, and learning through sensory exploration.

Today, our Centre Director Mandeep attended the Early Learning Leadership Forum.

The forum covered important topics including:

• Leading to support quality practice through reform
• Place-based local sessions
• Department of Education Early Childhood updates

Professional learning opportunities like these support continuous improvement within our service and help us stay informed about current practices, reforms, and strategies that positively impact children, families, and educators.

We are committed to ongoing growth, collaboration, and delivering high-quality early learning experiences for our community.

Our Kinder 1 children enjoyed exploring dot painting using a variety of paints and fine motor tools to create colourful patterns and unique designs!
Through this creative experience, children strengthened their hand-eye coordination, finger strength and control while developing their concentration and fine motor skills. The activity also encouraged creativity, self-expression and confidence as children experimented with colours, patterns and different painting techniques.
What a wonderful way to combine creativity and learning through play!
