dvice or even if you have the time or energy to do things differently. I was there not so long ago. Today feelings of stress and discontentment are becoming 'the norm'. When we stress, our brains get better at thinking in stressful ways. The neural pathways strengthen in a similar way to targeted muscle groups at the gym. Eventually it becomes our ‘default mode’. Fortunately our brains are forever changing (neuroplasticity), meaning that your mind can learn to think and operate in different ways. That’s right; I’m saying that you need to ‘train’ your brain to be happy and less stressed. These days seeing a specialist is pricey. But why should it cost the earth to access the resources needed to take control of your life? Yes, the internet helps, but the information is scattered, often of substandard quality and/or created by unqualified people. All this combined makes it almost impossible to navigate the useful from the useless. I should probably introduce myself - my name is Mike Harris and like you, I was caught up in the rat race. I was experiencing what I now believe to have been generalised anxiety - we often dismissively refer to it as 'being a stress-head'. Basically I worried A LOT. My sleep was terrible and my mind whizzed around every waking second of the day. I thought at the time that this was just 'life' and out of my control, but I later learned that with the right techniques I could change it all (life won’t slow down on it's own). I did this by initially reading books by credible authors, and then went on to University and studied Applied Science before completing an Occupational Therapy degree. I have since built a career as a Mental Health Therapist. Having worked shoulder to shoulder with Psychologists, Psychiatrists and many other health professionals over the years I can confidently say that I have learned a great deal about the mind, the body and how/why they do what they do. I could not think of anything more fascinating than the complexities of thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Every day I enjoy the challenge of tailoring what I know to assist normal people to get their health and their lives back on track. It is challenging but rewarding work. Through my studies, ongoing research and career I have been able to vastly improve my own health and make a difference in the lives of the people that I work with. But most don't have the time or the background to sort through the internet to locate good credible health information. This is why I decided to create Healthy Mind Academy. There needs to be a single ‘go to’ resource providing relevant, reputable and useful information on mind and body health. This is it. This is my attempt to pay it forward. It is my gift to you; because you deserve a healthy mind and a content life. I am going to help you get there. This resource has the potential to change your life. I hope that you are excited, because I am. This is going to be the most interesting journey of your life - and by far the most important one. You just need the desire for things to change and if you’ve read this far it's likely you already have that. I look forward to being there with you every step of the way.
