Apparantly, Australia is shifting from “prove your knowledge in exams” to “prove your practice competence in real clinical settings”
This is good news for experienced clinicians.
AHPRA/DBA is considering introducing NEW three pathways for dentists whose degree is considered relevant (not equivalent) but who have proper overseas work experience.
*Pathway 1: Comparable Qualification + Work-Based Experience
For dentists who:
• Qualified in a comparable regulator jurisdiction (CRJ)
• Practised ≥1800 hours in last 36 months in a CRJ
• Complete a workplace-based assessment (supervisor checklist or Board interview)
*Pathway 2: Comparable Pre-Registration Exam
For dentists who:
• Qualified in a non-comparable country
• BUT completed a recognised pre-registration exam in a CRJ (e.g., UK ORE, Canada NDEB, etc.)
• AND have ≥1800 hours practice in last 36 months in a CRJ
*Pathway 3: Comparable Work-Based Experience
For dentists who:
• Qualified in a non-comparable country
• No pre-registration exam
• BUT have ≥3600 hours practice over 48 months in a CRJ
• Undergo workplace-based assessment
