🌟 Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day! 🌟

Today we celebrate and recognise our incredible team of educators and the important work they do every single day. 💛

Our educators bring so much care, passion, knowledge and dedication to our centre. They create safe and welcoming environments, build meaningful relationships with every child and family, and provide learning experiences that encourage children to explore, wonder, grow and thrive.

Behind every experience, conversation, caring moment, story, learning opportunity and word of encouragement is an educator making a difference in a child’s life.

We are incredibly proud of our team and grateful for everything they bring to our children, families and community.

To all our wonderful educators, thank you for everything you do and for the difference you make every day. 🌻💛

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

Take another look through your What & When for Families guide to explore age-appropriate activities and learning ideas you can try together.

💛 Sometimes the best learning resource is the one you already have at home.

🌿 Introducing Our Room Totems 🌿

As part of strengthening our embedded First Nations practices and deepening our Possum Skin Pedagogy, each room has adopted a totem animal that reflects its identity and values.

Tiny Tots – Kangaroo in Woi Wurrung is Marram
Toddlers – Emu in Woi Wurrung is Burrimul
Kinder 3 – Pelican Woi Wurrung is Wadjil
Kinder 4 – White Cockatoo Woi Wurrung is Ngayuk

Each room then worked together to create a visual representation of their totem, using recycled materials and a variety of craft items to bring their Kangaroo, Emu, Pelican and White Cockatoo to life.

This was the first step in creating our centre’s interpretation of a Possum Skin Cloak, strengthening children’s sense of identity and belonging while connecting with Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.

🌱🔬 National Science Week – Growing Our Curiosity! 🔬🌱

To celebrate National Science Week, our children have been exploring the science behind how living things grow and what they need to stay healthy.

During group time, Educator Emily encouraged the children to compare what humans need to grow with what seeds need to grow. Together, the children discovered some important similarities – including water, sunlight, nutrients and care. 🌞💧🌱

We then put our learning into action! Using recycled milk containers we had been collecting, the children followed the planting process step by step – filling their pots with soil, making a small hole, carefully planting their seeds, covering them with soil and giving them water. They even wrote their names on their own pots. ♻️🌿

Our newly planted seeds are now proudly displayed in our outdoor garden, where the children will continue to observe, care for and document changes as they grow.

A wonderful hands-on experience bringing together science, sustainability, early literacy, fine-motor development and care for our natural environment. We can't wait to see what grows! 🌱💚
