"You don't get better at tennis by watching tennis".
The Serious Woo Courageous Conversations Program introduces practical concepts, reflection on how we respond in a conversation and most importantly real-life scenarios to put the skills in practice.
Confidence comes from practice, not from observation.

If you want to taste the sweet fruits of innovation, you must make sure you have ordered a large serving of creative practice first.
How do you do this as a team? Start with giving each other (and yourself) permission to play.

When I am in workshops and introducing the concept of cognitive bias, I often notice a few different responses from participants which you may recognise in your team:
- some feel like they are โa dirty wordโ and do not want to acknowledge they have them in case they are judged
- others feel overwhelmed at how to identify and overcome these processes (there are around 180 different types of them!)
- and then there are those that are just annoyed that they have to even think about them!
Here is a little activity that may help you to introduce the most common cognitive biases to your team and demystify them a little.
The infographic above identified 9 common thinking biases.
Ask your team:
1. Which of the 9 biases listed do they identify with the most?
2. Can they see how they may potentially play out in their work?
3. Would they like to invite their colleagues to challenge them on these biases?
(You may wish to devise a fun way of doing this.)
Creating a shared language around behaviours such as cognitive biases can create a more playful and safe way for us to talk about our everyday interactions and conversations.
You can find a printable version of the activity in the comments which includes the three questions.
And for those in the team that donโt even think they have any biases, they can always have their mind blown by the Harvard Implicit Association test. (Link in comments as well)
Would this activity work for your team? I would love to hear your thoughts below.
