On 15 August, known as Dekapentavgoustos, the Orthodox Church celebrates one of its greatest feasts: the Dormition of the Theotokos.
Today we honour Panagia, the Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and her passage from earthly life into the glory of Heaven.
For our students, Panagia leaves us a powerful example: you do not need to be the loudest, strongest or most recognised person to make a difference. Her strength was found in her faith, her humility, her courage and her trust in God.
In a world that often tells young people to seek attention, success and recognition, Panagia teaches us something different: a life of genuine love, goodness and faith can have an influence far greater than we may ever see.
May our students have the courage to remain true to their faith, their values and who God calls them to be.
We wish a blessed name day to all celebrating today, especially Panagiotis, Panagiota, Maria and Despina.
May the Most Holy Theotokos protect and guide our St John’s College students, staff and families.

Yesterday, a selected group of Year 7 students attended the Festal Divine Liturgy service at the Parish of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Thomastown.
The Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia. His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne and members of our clergy were in attendance.
During the service, our students were blessed to witness the ordination of Father Panagiotis Andrews to the Diaconate, making this a truly memorable and significant occasion.
On behalf of the College community, we congratulate Father Panagiotis. May God bless and guide him throughout his ministry and faithful service to the Church.

Today, our College community gathered in prayer for our annual Term 3 Divine Liturgy, offering thanksgiving to God as we commenced a new school term together.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the Very Reverend Father George Frangos, our College Chaplain, for presiding over the Divine Liturgy, together with Father Dejan Milosevic.
Our Byzantine Chanting Group, together with the devoted service of our altar boys, enriched the reverence and beauty of the Divine Liturgy, helping our community enter more deeply into the sacred worship of the Orthodox Church.
During his sermon, Father George encouraged our students to reflect on how they can become bearers of the Light of Christ through lives of faith, humility, love, and service to others. He challenged them to let the Light of Christ shine through their words, actions, and relationships each day, becoming a living witness to the Gospel in their daily lives.
As we begin this new term, may we continue to walk in the Light of Christ, growing in faith and striving to glorify God in all that we do.

🎉 Welcoming Mr Lopez! 🎉
Today, our whole school community came together to warmly welcome Mr Lopez as the new Principal of St John's College! 🙌
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, Father George Frangos, our School Captains, and every student and staff member gathered for a special whole-school assembly to celebrate this exciting new chapter for our College. Today, a selected group of Year 9 students had the privilege of attending the Divine Liturgy for the annual Feast Day of Axion Estin, the Archdiocesan Church of the Diocese of Chora. We also commemorated the Feast Day of Saints Bartholomew and Barnabas, making this a particularly special occasion as we celebrated the Name Day of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, who has faithfully served as the spiritual leader of the Eastern Orthodox Church since 1991. We offer our heartfelt prayers that God, through the intercessions of his Patron Saint, will continue to bless His All-Holiness with good health, wisdom, and spiritual strength, so that he may continue to guide and inspire our Church for many years to come.
