What a fun and engaging few weeks at PICO! 🌿🚦

During Bush Kinder, the children connected with nature by exploring the outdoors, collecting leaves for a beautiful collage activity, and creating nature bracelets using natural materials they discovered along the way. 🍃✨

As part of Road Safety Week, the children worked together on a group project to create their own traffic lights using recycled boxes. They also learned important road safety skills, including how to cross the road safely and what the colours on traffic lights represent. 🚦♻️

We also welcomed the “Jack and Jill Up Bravery Hill” child protection incursion. Through interactive learning, the children explored important concepts including safe trust, body ownership, and recognising unsafe situations. The session encouraged thoughtful discussions, and the children confidently asked questions and shared their ideas. 💛

We are so proud of the children for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to learn through play and meaningful experiences!

🏴‍☠️✨ PICO Pirate & Fairy Day ✨🧚‍♀️

What a magical adventure we had at PICO for our Pirate & Fairy Day!

The children arrived dressed as brave pirates and beautiful fairies, ready for a day full of imagination and fun. We loved seeing all the creative costumes – from sparkling wings to eye patches and pirate hats!

Throughout the day, the children enjoyed:
🪄 Wand making
🏴‍☠️ Pirate hat creating
🍞 Making (and eating!) delicious fairy bread

It was truly a fantastic day filled with creativity, teamwork, and fun.

📚✨ Bring the Book to Life – 4-Year-Old Kindergarten ✨📚

We are so excited to share that our 4-year-old kindergarten children were gifted a special book to take home and keep at the end of term as part of our “Bring the Book to Life” learning experience.

Families were encouraged to enjoy reading the story together at home over a two-week period, creating special moments and meaningful conversations along the way.

After reading the book, children were invited to “bring the story to life” in a creative way! This included:

🎨 Arts and crafts
🎭 Creating a character or special scene
👗 Dressing up in a costume
🌟 Or any imaginative idea their child came up with

The focus of this experience was on creativity, imagination, and enjoyment — not perfection. Children had the opportunity to share their creation with the kindergarten group and talk about their favourite part of the story.

It was a wonderful school holiday creative experience, and we loved seeing our 4-year-olds so engaged and proud of their efforts.

Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea at PICO 🌸🫖

We loved hosting such a special celebration for all the wonderful mums and mother figures in our community. The space was filled with laughter, creativity and beautiful moments shared together.

Children enjoyed play dough, badge making, bracelet making and colouring in, thoughtfully creating keepsakes while families relaxed and enjoyed afternoon tea together.

It was a lovely opportunity to slow down, connect and celebrate the incredible role mums play every day. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so memorable 💐

Where In The World Are You From? 🌎

At PICO, we value diversity and recognise that every family brings unique experiences, cultures, and stories that enrich our learning community.
In the toddler room, families were invited to participate in a meaningful cultural experience by placing a pin on a world map to represent their family’s heritage.

This hands-on experience supported children in developing a strong sense of belonging and pride in who they are, while also fostering curiosity and respect for the diverse backgrounds of others. 💛

🔷 2D Shapes Exploration 🔺

Yesterday in the Kinder room, the children explored 2D shapes through an engaging video that helped them recognise shapes in their everyday environment. We focused on squares, triangles, circles, and rectangles—talking about what we could see, sharing ideas, and identifying examples around us. We also discussed the number of sides each shape has, helping to build a deeper understanding of their properties.

Following this, the children participated in a hands-on creative activity using cut-out shapes to design their own pictures. They were also invited to complete a fun robot activity, carefully matching and pasting the correct shapes in the right places.

To extend their learning even further, the children used extra shapes to create their own imaginative designs around the edges of their work. This encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and reinforced their understanding of shapes in a fun and meaningful way.

What a fun and busy week we’ve had at PICO! 💛

🏃‍♂️ Sports for Kinder – Our kinder children have been building their coordination, teamwork and confidence through active sports sessions. So much energy and so many smiles!

🌋 Volcano Experiment – The kinders explored science in the most exciting way with a volcano experiment. There were lots of “wows” as we watched the eruption and talked about how it works!

🖐️ Nursery Sensory Play – Our nursery children have been focusing on different textures this week, exploring through hands-on sensory experiences to support their development and curiosity.

🎶 Hey Dee Ho – Music, movement and big happy faces! Our Hey Dee Ho session had everyone singing, dancing and joining in the fun.

Learning through play isn’t “just play” - it’s how children build the foundations for lifelong learning.
