Dental Health Week at Pebble Patch ELC

During the week, our children participated in a range of learning experiences focusing on Dental Health and Healthy Eating.

Children engaged in an interactive presentation from Monash Health, which explored the amount of sugar found in different foods and drinks and discussed how sugar can affect the health of our teeth. This encouraged children to think about making healthy food and drink choices to help keep their teeth strong.

The children also participated in a sorting activity, identifying healthy foods and "sometimes" foods, and matching them with healthy teeth or teeth showing signs of decay. They then practised the correct technique for brushing their teeth, reinforcing the importance of good oral hygiene habits.

To extend their learning, the children took part in a mindfulness art experience connected to dental hygiene, supporting the development of their fine motor skills, creativity, and concentration.
To celebrate Dental Health Week, each child was presented with a toothbrush to take home, encouraging them to continue practising healthy dental habits with their families.

Monash Dental Health Dentist will be visiting our children in September, with a free Dental Hygiene check.

National Sorry Day (May 26) and National Reconciliation Week (May 27–June 3) are important times in Australia for truth-telling, healing, and acknowledging the history and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

National Sorry Day (26 May)
Commemorating the 1997 Bringing Them Home report, this day honors the strength of Stolen Generations survivors and acknowledges the trauma caused by past forced removal policies.

National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June)
This week focuses on building better relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

For the past week our programs have provided learning opportunities to learn about Aboriginal traditions, customs and culture. Throughout this week children have been immersed in music, art, stories and other experiences that has enhanced teamwork, collaboration, literacy and numeracy skills.

Thank you team for our cultural rich learning opportunities.

A busy week of learning at Pebble Patch ELC...

We have been exploring the world of nature, discovering insects and butterflies in our garden, while harvesting our herbs and vegetables from our Garden Patch. Our herbs collected today were added to our lunch, Beef Chow Mein.

"National Bee Week" was a fun week learning about Bees and honey. This led to engaged conversations about where the bees are in our garden, which led to creating our own flower pots.

We pride ourselves on listening to children, following their lead and interests, to create engaging programs.

Mothers and Special Friends Day
Afternoon Tea, at Pebble Patch.

We had a wonderful afternoon on Thursday to celebrate our children’s families and Mothers for Afternoon Tea.

Each room provided amazing activities for children to participate with their guests.

Gumnuts (babies) provided a game “find my family” and threading flowers.

Kangaroo Paws (toddlers) provided sensory play dough and nail polish to paint guests nails. ( toddlers were very creative)

Wattles ( 3 year olds) provided Flower arranging for children creating floral posies for their mums.

Waratahs (4 - 5 yrs) provided a “Day Spa” and creative arts. Our 4 years had a story about “I love my mum” and sang a song for their guests.

Afternoon Tea was beautiful cupcakes made by our chef and our children also decorated some cup cakes which was served with fresh fruit and cheese platters. Delicious!

I would like to thank our familes for attending our social event which our children enjoyed your their visit and they enjoyed making their mums beautiful gifts.

I would like to thank our team for creating a special time for our children and families. Each room had a lovely afternoon tea party, decorating their rooms, demonstrating a real sense of pride creating a special day for all.

Wishing our Mums, Educators and all the mums in our local community, a wonderful Mother’s Day.

ANZAC Day at Pebble Patch

As a Pebble Patch Commnity, we gathered in the yard with our Educators and Children sat together in a circle while our Centre Manager read the story “Lest We Forget”. The story was supported with conversations about kindness and respect. Our Children were encouraged to reflect on how they can be kind friends, what makes them happy, what maked them sad, linking the story to their everyday interactions. This highlighted how important it is to create space for children to explore big ideas through familiar concepts and emotions. This approach of friendship, respect and belonging is traditionally our ANZAC Day message with children.

Earth Day at Pebble Patch

Celebrated on 22 April every year, Earth Day is an opportunity for communities around the world to demonstrate their support and commitment towards environmental protection and preservation.

Our children participated in a range of experiences teaching them the importance of caring for our environment, recycling, reuse and sustainability, an ongoing project at Pebble Patch.

We have a Sustainability plan where children are activity involved in being energy efficient and reducing our carbon footprint.

Our children take care of….

** Children turn off lights when going outside
** Left over water collected and used to water plants
** Children put food scarps in compost bin
** Children sort rubbish into recycle bins
** Children care and water for our vegetable and sensory garden

A copy of our Sustainability Plan is located in our front foyer.

We hope this information about our “Sustainability warriors” inspire your children to implement these practices at home!
