National Sorry Day (May 26) and National Reconciliation Week (May 27–June 3) are important times in Australia for truth-telling, healing, and acknowledging the history and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
National Sorry Day (26 May)
Commemorating the 1997 Bringing Them Home report, this day honors the strength of Stolen Generations survivors and acknowledges the trauma caused by past forced removal policies.
National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June)
This week focuses on building better relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For the past week our programs have provided learning opportunities to learn about Aboriginal traditions, customs and culture. Throughout this week children have been immersed in music, art, stories and other experiences that has enhanced teamwork, collaboration, literacy and numeracy skills.
Thank you team for our cultural rich learning opportunities.

A busy week of learning at Pebble Patch ELC...
We have been exploring the world of nature, discovering insects and butterflies in our garden, while harvesting our herbs and vegetables from our Garden Patch. Our herbs collected today were added to our lunch, Beef Chow Mein.
"National Bee Week" was a fun week learning about Bees and honey. This led to engaged conversations about where the bees are in our garden, which led to creating our own flower pots.
We pride ourselves on listening to children, following their lead and interests, to create engaging programs.

ANZAC Day at Pebble Patch
As a Pebble Patch Commnity, we gathered in the yard with our Educators and Children sat together in a circle while our Centre Manager read the story “Lest We Forget”. The story was supported with conversations about kindness and respect. Our Children were encouraged to reflect on how they can be kind friends, what makes them happy, what maked them sad, linking the story to their everyday interactions. This highlighted how important it is to create space for children to explore big ideas through familiar concepts and emotions. This approach of friendship, respect and belonging is traditionally our ANZAC Day message with children.

Harmony Week and International Friendship Day. At Pebble Patch.
Last week, we been celebrated Harmony Week. Our children and Educators held discussions, and explored how and why we all look different, encouraging children to observe and appreciate each other’s unique features and learning about different countries around the world.
A range of learning experiences occurred across the Centre. Our younger children in Gumnuts and Kangaroo Paws enjoys exploring different cultures through art, story telling and music.
While our older 3 year Kindergarten children in Wattles and 4 year Kindergarten in Waratahs learnt about their teachers cultures learning about Persia and Sri Lanka languages and counting in Japanese. Each day there was connection to our Local Aboriginal community and participating in Acknowledgement of Country.
Lively conversations were held about where we come from and invited the children to speak with their families about their cultural backgrounds and any special items that represent their heritage.
The Waratahs children created self-portraits and added their handprints to a classroom poster titled “Everyone is different, Everyone Belongs.”
The Wattles children created and decorated Harmony Flowers.
On Friday in recognition of the International Day of Happiness, children shared that they feel happy at Pebble Patch and discussed ways to show kindness to their friends, such as giving presents and sharing toys. To extend on these ideas, the Waratah children were invited to create friendship bracelets as a meaningful gift for a peer, promoting kindness, connection, and a sense of belonging.
To celebrate our Educators cultural backgrounds, we had a Harmony Day Educators lunch where we share food for our team to enjoy together upstairs.
What a wonderful culturally rich week of celebrating our Diverse community.
