What will your crocodile look like? 🐊

At Nido Prahran, big ideas start with a curiosity! Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our curriculum is based upon the children’s emerging interests.

In this experience, children were invited to imagine, design, and create their own crocodiles—whether long and snappy, brightly colored like a rainbow, or even ones that could fly. Together, we explored these ideas by listening closely, observing their thinking, and creating alongside them as their ideas unfolded.

Through collaboration, meaningful conversations, and creative exploration, we supported children in developing their thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to express themselves in rich and meaningful ways.

Friday 13 February marks the anniversary of the National Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples delivered in Federal Parliament. It is a time for reflection and learning as we continue to walk forward together.

Our educator Sienna Malthouse is a proud First Nations educator who is passionate about supporting children to build understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and history. Today Sienna created meaningful learning experiences to support children learn about Aboriginal culture and grow into respectful and culturally aware individuals.

At Nido Prahran we care deeply about teaching children that Aboriginal culture is a living and valued part of our nation.

Valentine’s Day at Nido Prahran

This Valentine’s Day, we focused on supporting children experience the joy of love, kindness, and giving. The children spent time preparing beautiful handmade gifts in the classroom for their parents and loved ones. Our amazing chef Ngoc Thy Thy Tran also prepared delicious chocolate strawberries for everyone, filling the centre with excitement, love and joy.

Our art teacher Sarah Malthouse also had the opportunity to read one of the children’s favourite books about feelings and spoke with the children about the things and people they love in their lives. Many children shared that they love their parents, families, and friends, and it was incredibly touching to hear their voices. Moments like these remind us how important it is to create opportunities for children to express emotions, build connections, and celebrate the love they have for the people around them.

From Waste to Wonder: A Second Life for Flowers

Prahran Grocer kindly donated flowers that were no longer suitable for sale. Instead of being thrown away, these flowers now have a second life in our learning spaces. The children use them for creative play, sensory exploration, art experiences, and discussions about nature and sustainability. Through this, they are learning the importance of caring for our environment and finding meaningful ways to reduce waste.

To say thank you, Nido Prahran children created a special thank you card to show how grateful they are for this kindness and generosity.

A wonderful example of how small community partnerships can make a big difference for our children and for our planet. šŸ’ššŸŒ±

HANDS TOGETHER TO HELP BUSHFIRE SURVIVORS ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

To show our care and support for the animals affected by the recent bushfires, we worked together with the children to create this special art piece.

This artwork reflects each child’s love and kindness for the animals, as well as our deep gratitude for the dedication and commitment of the firefighters, the community, and everyone across our country who offered their support during this time.

A big thank you to all the families and members of our community who took the time to donate. Together, we made a real difference by raising $316 šŸ’°
