Cervical mucus is more than a fertility sign - it’s a vital sign of reproductive health.
The Billings Ovulation Method® teaches women to recognise the natural patterns of cervical mucus, which reflect changing hormone levels throughout the cycle. Research shared by WOOMB International and Billings LIFE shows that cervical mucus provides real-time insight into ovarian activity, fertility, and overall reproductive wellbeing.
Changes in mucus patterns can help identify fertile and infertile phases, but they can also alert a woman to possible health concerns such as hormonal imbalance, infection, inflammation, or other reproductive disorders.
As Professor James Brown - co-developer of the scientific research behind the Billings Ovulation Method - explained, “mucus production is a useful self-bioassay of ovarian hormone production.” (Billings Life, 2016)
Learning to observe and chart cervical mucus empowers women with knowledge about their bodies in every stage of life - in a way that is respectful, natural, and scientifically proven.

Coming off chemical contraception or removing devices like the pill, IUD, or implant can bring noticeable changes to your menstrual cycle. Your body may take time to re-establish its natural hormonal rhythm - which can mean irregular cycles, changes in flow, or different symptoms than you remember.
This transition phase is an opportunity to reconnect with your body’s natural signals. The Billings Ovulation Method is a simple, evidence-based way to understand your fertility by observing and charting your body's natural signs of fertility and infertility. It can help you make sense of cycle changes, identify ovulation, and feel more confident navigating your reproductive health - without relying on hormones or devices.

It’s International Day of the Midwife 2026! 🌍
This year’s mission, One Million More Midwives, is all about growing the global workforce to ensure every woman has the care she deserves.
Midwives do so much more than deliver babies—they empower us. Many provide essential reproductive health services by integrating natural fertility awareness into their care, helping women understand their cycles, track their health, and take charge of their family planning naturally.
Let’s celebrate the midwives who bridge the gap between clinical expertise and personal autonomy.

Did you know that ovulation isn't a fixed event?
Stress, anxiety, illness, fatigue - even something as simple as travel or a change in environment - can delay ovulation. Your hormones respond to your overall health, even when you may not be aware any change in yourself.
This means that the timing of your fertile window also shifts, and your cycle will be longer than usual.
Daily observations using the Billings Ovulation Method help us to recognise and respond to these natural variations.

🩸Women need their periods.
Not just for fertility, but for brain health, mood, and long-term development and wellbeing.
Your cycle is powered by natural hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which directly shape how your brain functions. They influence everything from energy and focus to emotional balance and resilience.
In the first half of your cycle, estrogen dominates - stimulating the nervous system and supporting motivation, clarity, and cognitive performance.
In the second half, progesterone helps calm the nervous system, decreasing anxiety and stabilizing mood overall.
This natural rhythm is designed to help your brain function, adapt, and thrive.
For younger women, regular cycles are especially important. They help the brain fully develop and mature, setting the foundation for future mental and emotional health.
When this natural rhythm is disrupted, it can impact brain health, mood, and overall wellbeing in the long-term.
Your period isn’t just something to ‘put up with’ - it's something to celebrate.
It’s an in-built mechanism that is essential to safeguarding your physical, emotional, and mental health.
