π DonateLife Week: Turning Loss into Hope
Organ donation is one of the most profound acts of generosity in healthcare. It represents a unique intersection of loss and hope, where one person's final gift has the power to save and transform the lives of many others.
For peri-anaesthesia nurses, supporting organ donation is both a privilege and a responsibility. We stand alongside donors, families, retrieval teams, and transplant services during some of the most emotional moments in healthcare. Our role extends beyond clinical expertise; we provide compassionate care, uphold dignity, respect cultural and ethical considerations, and help ensure every donor's gift is honoured with the utmost respect.
Behind every successful transplant is a donor, a family who made an extraordinary decision during a time of immense grief, and a team of healthcare professionals committed to preserving that gift. It is a reminder that even in the midst of profound loss, hope can emerge.
This DonateLife Week, we acknowledge and thank the donors and families whose generosity has changed countless lives. We also recognise the healthcare teams who work tirelessly to support the donation process and ensure every donor's legacy lives on through others.
As peri-anaesthesia nurses, we are proud to play a role in one of healthcare's most meaningful journeys; where compassion, humanity, and clinical excellence come together to create the gift of life.
Have you had the privilege of caring for a donor, recipient, or family involved in the donation process? Share your reflections below and help raise awareness of the life-changing impact of organ donation. π

The Anaesthetic Crisis Manual is an invaluable resource for perioperative teams, providing clear, evidence-informed cognitive aids during critical events and supporting safe, coordinated patient care.
π‘ Anyone can purchase a copy through ACPAN, and ACPAN members receive an exclusive discount.
If your department doesnβt have the latest edition, now is the perfect time to update your emergency resources.

Have you ever used the ACM in a crisis in your workplace?

The learning doesnβt stop after the webinar.
If youβre interested in exploring perioperative anaphylaxis further, the NAP6 (National Audit Project 6) infographic provides a concise summary of one of the largest studies into life-threatening allergic reactions during anaesthesia and surgery.
Itβs a valuable resource to revisit, share with colleagues, and use to prompt discussion within your department.
Have you read the NAP6 report or used its findings to inform practice in your workplace?

π What a fantastic evening of learning yesterday!
A huge thank you to Dr. Juliet Blackburn for delivering such an engaging and thought-provoking webinar on perioperative anaphylaxis. The discussion highlighted just how critical preparation, early recognition, and effective teamwork are when managing one of anaesthesia's most time-critical emergencies.
As a practical takeaway, we encourage every perioperative department to review their emergency resources and ensure the latest ANZAAGβANZCA Anaphylaxis Management Guidelines (2022) and the latest v4 Anaesthetic Crisis manual are readily available on your anaesthetic crisis trolley or emergency cognitive aid station.

π‘ Take a moment to check your department:
βοΈ Are the Anaphylaxis Management resources available?
βοΈ Are they easy to find during an emergency?
βοΈ Does your team know where they are?
Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference when responding to a crisis.
Thank you to everyone who joined us this evening. We look forward to seeing you at our next Webinar on Neurodiversity and Anaesthesia in August!
