📚 Book Week is a celebration of stories, imagination and belonging.

Books invite children to wonder, ask questions and see the world through different perspectives. Whether we're reading together, acting out a favourite story or exploring characters through play, each story sparks curiosity, creativity and meaningful conversations.

To celebrate Book Week, we've shared some of our favourite children's book recommendations. We also invite our families to explore the MCC library, where you're welcome to borrow books to enjoy together at home or in the learning spaces and continue fostering a love of reading beyond the classroom.

Happy Book Week! 📖✨

Explore. Discover. Wonder.

Guided by our philosophy, we create environments where children investigate light, movement, nature, and simple experiments in ways that honour their ideas, questions, and theories. As they collaborate, test possibilities, and share discoveries with peers and educators, they build confidence, agency, and a deep sense of belonging in our learning community.

Science Week becomes not just a theme, but a lived expression of our commitment to nurturing wonder, connection, and lifelong learning at MCC.

Mud, leaves, water... and a whole lot of imagination! 🌿
Our mud kitchen is more than a place to get messy—it's where children become chefs, scientists, storytellers and problem-solvers. Every recipe is unique, every creation is celebrated, and every moment is filled with joyful learning.

Today, our Monash Children's Centre community comes together in our favourite pyjamas to support National Pyjama Day and The Pyjama Foundation—because every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn.

At Monash Children's Centre, we believe that nurturing relationships, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a love of learning are the foundations of every child's journey. We are proud to stand alongside our families and community in supporting a cause that shares these values.

🔥 Gather. Share. Learn.

Our fire pit is more than a place to cook—it's a place to connect.

As part of this experience, our kindergarten children gathered to cook sweet potatoes and damper over the fire, developing an understanding of fire safety, teamwork, patience and the science of cooking through hands-on exploration.

Gathering around the fire also provides meaningful opportunities to learn about Country. Through shared experiences and conversations, children begin to explore the significance of fire in bringing people together, preparing food, sharing knowledge and caring for Country, while recognising the enduring knowledge of First Peoples.

🍃 Move. Explore. Thrive.

Active outdoor play is about so much more than movement, it is a powerful pathway for learning, wellbeing, and discovery.

At Monash Children's Centre, our expansive outdoor environment is more than a playground, it is an extension of our learning spaces. Surrounded by mature trees, natural tanbark, and thoughtfully curated natural materials, children are immersed in an environment that invites movement, exploration, and discovery every day.

🤖 A cardboard box. A collection of recycled materials. Endless possibilities.

As children designed and created their own robot, they explored possibilities, solved problems, and transformed everyday objects into something entirely new. Through collaboration, creativity, and open-ended thinking, they experimented with different ideas, adapted their designs, and proudly brought their vision to life.

At Monash Children's Centre, we see recycled materials as more than resources—they are invitations to imagine, invent, and inquire. By encouraging children to see potential in everyday objects, we nurture creativity, sustainability, and the confidence to think beyond the expected.

🍃 Nature's Treasures. Endless Possibilities.

Loose natural parts invite children to think creatively, solve problems, and lead their own learning. As they collect, sort, arrange, build, and imagine, children explore the properties of natural materials while developing critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper connection to the environment.

At Monash Children's Centre, we believe the richest learning often begins with the simplest materials. By embracing nature as a partner in learning, we create opportunities for children to wonder, investigate, and discover through open-ended play.
