M-ASS is a social and educational club at the University of Melbourne, welcoming members from all faculties

Throughout the year, M-ASS (the Arts Faculty club for the University of Melbourne) puts on free BBQs for its members every second Thursday, runs a first-year orientation camp, organises an annual Writing Competition to recognise outstanding essays written for arts subjects with prizes, and throws several major events, including the much-loved Paint ‘n’ Glow, M-ASSive After Exams Party and of course, Arts Ball.

⭐️📝2024 M-ASS WRITING COMPETITION!!📝⭐️

Do you ever feel annoyed at the lack of prizes given out in tutorials?! Do you want to brag about how smart you are but unsure of how to make it classy? Us too. That’s why we are holding our annual 2024 M-ASS WRITING COMPETITION! Open up those old subject folders and send us your old essays or creative writing pieces to have a chance at winning some AMAZING prizes! You’ve already done the hard work- what have you got to lose!!?

The 2024 M-ASS Writing Competition is an opportunity for you to get recognition for the amazing and brilliant work that you have completed in the past year. Other than those warm gooey feelings inside, winners will also receive amazing prizes from our fabulous sponsors. Previous prizes have included Canon cameras, books and book vouchers, magazine subscriptions, cash prizes and other goodies worth up to $1500 🤩

Now for the fun part- entering!
Find work that you have already submitted- academic or creative writing- for any subject within the Faculty of Arts.

Ensure you took this subject in Semester 2 2023 or Semester 1 2024, and that you received a mark of 70% or higher (check T&Cs for more details).
Add our cover letter to the beginning of the document. (must be a word doc!)

Then, you will have from the 9th-23rd of August to submit your work to our Google Form!
Sit back, relax, and join us at our 2024 Writing and Publishing Industry Night on September 11th!

Wait… slow down. Writing and Publishing Industry Night you say? Sure do! And its not just where we announce the winners and awards for the Writing Competition… This event is a a great opportunity to hear from professionals within the writing industry such as authors, journalists and publishers. More info on this to come, so keep your eyes peeled and your calendars free! 👀 📅

Our Story

M-ASS is the largest student-run university society in Melbourne. Since 1999, we have been delivering the highest quality social events, camps, BBQs, education and industry programs.

For first-year students, we are the pathway to a new network of close friends, to a smooth introduction to uni life. Our Orientation Week events are plentiful and the easiest way to connect with new people. Arts Camp is the ultimate way to walk into your first classes having been away for three days with 159 other campers.

Throughout the year, we’ll bring you Paint ‘n’ Glow (Melbourne’s messiest party), Arts Ball, Industry Insights evenings, fortnightly BBQs, sporting tournaments, free giveaways, and loads more chances to make your university experience amazing.
