Road safety week.
During the week of the 17th to the 24th May 2026, Hippity hop early learning Berwick, participated in road safety week.
Road safety has always been an important aspect of our learning at the service and in 2024, we participated in a road safety project to support children’s understanding of road safety and to make our car park safer.
This year we engaged the support of a centre mascot, Peepers the owl. Through our ongoing engagement with Letters from Shirley Pearl, we learnt that the Powerful owl are;
Protectors - keeping an eye on what is happening
Messengers - carrying warnings and important signs
And
Teachers - reminding us to slow down, listen and be aware
Peepers was used to support children’s understanding of road safety concepts such as keeping us safe, holding hands, stop looking and listening and teaching children about road signs.

After attending recent training on supporting children in developing healthy lifestyles, we have been reviewing or menu.
We have been trialing several of the recipes presented at the training.
Today, the kindergarten children were supported to make Carrot cake oatmeal squares for afternoon tea. The educators engaged in positive conversations with the children about the different ingredients, allowing them to smell the spices. Children counted ingredients and helped make the mixture.

🌿 Harmony Week in the Caterpillar Room 🌿
Our children have been busy creating beautiful leaves for our Community Tree as we celebrate Harmony Week. Using the light board, they carefully traced leaf shapes, showing great focus and creativity.
“It’s glowing!” one child shared, while another said, “I’m making a leaf for everyone.”
This experience supported children’s sense of belonging and connection, as we worked together to create something meaningful for our community. 💛

Reptile Encounters
Today the children were visited by Ben from Reptile encounters as part of their Feathers fur and fins show.
Each room spent time learning about a range of Australian animals including the noisy black cockatoo, a ringtail possum, crocodiles, a turtle, a stumpy tail lizard and a frill neck lizard and snakes.
The children from each room learnt about the habitat of each animal, the habits of each animal and what they eat, at a level suited to the ages of the groups.
Thank you to Ben for his patience and time as he worked with each group.
