Racks of outfits, cameras flashing and a room buzzing with creative energy, that's the vibe from our 2 hour fashion shoot with James Morris and Nikon Australia last month 📸

Fashion and Styling students brought their favourite pieces along, working hands on with Photography, Digital Social Media, Screen and Media students throughout the day.

Some students modelled their own pieces, others brought friends along to model for them, and everyone left with new skills, portfolio ready work and connections they'll carry into their own practice.

Guided by James Morris, a q***r Australian–Lebanese fashion photographer and filmmaker known for storytelling that champions diversity, authenticity and a modern vision of beauty.

A big thank you to Nikon Australia for providing the equipment on the day and helping bring this experience to life.

It's World Fashion Day, and to celebrate we're spotlighting Cala Hernandez-Godoy's Fashion & Sustainability Capstone project, the CITRINE collection by CVLITV 🍊

Named after the citrine gemstone found in Artigas, Uruguay, the collection is Cala's love letter to her Chilean and Uruguayan heritage. Crochet, embroidery and hand embellishment reworked into contemporary silhouettes, made entirely from deadstock and reclaimed fabric. Citrine is slow fashion, made with purpose.

And of course, it took a village: Cala brought together fellow Collarts alumni, students and creatives to bring Citrine to life (Credits on IG):

Mohair rosettes, cross-stitched bunnies and vintage buttons are just some of the details that make Heart Couture so distinctly its own.

Fashion Journal caught up with Jodie Tian, a Collarts fashion student turning found and pre-loved materials into her own label, for a great read on creativity, sustainability, and doing things a little differently 🎀

Check out the piece below:

With the support of Collarts' industry-based educators, 21-year-old Jodie balances study while building her fashion business, Heart Couture.

Meet recent Digital & Social Media graduate Xyna Phan!✨

“Social media is really just online marketing, and theres a whole world of need. We are well and truly deep into the digital age and that isn’t going anywhere. Theres no 'Social media interns' anymore, its full time roles.”

Being a part of the first generation to grow up alongside the internet, Xyna was drawn to the creative digital-outlets of the early internet, which allowed people to have full control over their own creativity. She was able to watch this emerging art form grow into a long list of viable career options.

From Xyna’s ongoing commitment to grow her many skills, she now has a job that not only allows her the creative freedom she has always desired, but one that she truly sees as her career.

We’re shining a spotlight on Writing & Directing student Laura Henderson, who chose Collarts after discovering her love for English and Drama in high school.

“This course has allowed me to explore my most niche areas of interest in theatre, while also introducing me to methodologies and styles of work I had never come across before. Through these opportunities, I’ve developed a strong foundation for my artistic voice.” (Laura)

Laura is currently working as a dramaturg and producer on Hijinx (set to be showcased at Melbourne Fringe), as well as Associate Director on Entr’acte Theatre Company’s September production of Ride the Cyclone. She’s also in the process of writing two original scripts! 👀

🎬 Screen & Media student Nick Williams is already making his mark in the film industry.

After writing and directing Gacked: The Movie to the Soundtrack, Nick is now developing his own feature film, turning his passion into a career.

Gacked was inspired by Nick's own experiences growing up in Melbourne's music scene, where he watched friends dive into DJing and late-night gigs. That world became the foundation for a film that's raw, authentic and uniquely local.
Nick credits the support of his lecturers, especially Lucy Coleman and Tristan Meredith, for encouraging him to take creative risks, build industry connections and back himself as a filmmaker.
