Reclaiming a couple of axles for a skid steer that had torn the keyways out
It’s an older machine so hard to find new or good axles
Welded up all the damaged sections and a bit more then machine back to correct diameters for both the sprocket and the bearing journal’s then cut in the two new keyways at 135 degrees separation
These jobs are always more time consuming than clients can appreciate but that’s all just part and parcel of the dark magic of getting it done

A bit of time spent mostly on the mill today at 600
A bus suspension part with badly stripped out threads required repair
Drilled out the damaged 18 mm thread remains and tapped a 22mm thread 50mm deep
Then make new thread inserts to suit and install them now it’s back to OEM spec and ready to go back into service

Now this is proof that I never know what the next job is going to be
Machine up a mounting bezel for a camera lens that was made in 1870 😳
You know the old school camera that had a big box on a tripod and the photographer had the black cloth over them and camera to take a photo
The tread is 4 inch x 24 TPI as luck had it I had a piece of bronze around the correct size that I’d salvaged from an excavator bushing sitting in my scrap pile. Well now it’s reborn into something useful again

New parts for an old unit.Axle and brake control rod for a 1931 Chev
How differently they did things in the past the axle has course splines and a taper & keyed end to fit into a tapered wheel hub
It required several different set up’s on both lathe and mill to machine it but I think much more durable than the original that had broken and been welded at some point in the past
And a brake control rod for mechanical brake set up 😳 I think it might have required a pretty strong right leg or two feet to pull one of these old girls up in a hurry
