Meet Natasha – Founder of the Melbourne Performing Arts Academy

Hi, I’m Natasha, founder of the Melbourne Performing Arts Academy.

Nine years ago, I established the Academy with a simple vision: to bring people together and enrich lives through the transformative power of music education.

In 2017, I designed and launched our unique World Music-inspired, multi-instrumental Kindergarten program, drawing on the renowned Kodály and Orff approaches. From the very beginning, my goal was to inspire a lifelong love of music while helping children develop confidence, creativity, resilience and a genuine passion for learning.

It has been incredibly rewarding to watch our students grow into talented young musicians and confident, successful young people. Seeing their achievements and love of music flourish has been one of the greatest joys of my career.

Today, the Melbourne Performing Arts Academy has grown into a dedicated team of exceptional teachers, and we are thrilled to have expanded to our beautiful new home at Pentridge, where we continue to welcome students of all ages and abilities.

I am also delighted to offer specialised AMEB Classical Piano lessons on Sundays by appointment, tailored to support students preparing for examinations or wishing to develop strong classical piano skills.

Whether you’re beginning your musical journey or looking to advance your skills, we’d love to welcome you to our musical community.

Playing the piano is often considered one of the most complex — and rewarding — activities the human brain and body can do because it combines so many skills at the same time.

Here’s why piano playing is so powerful:

🎹 It uses both sides of the brain simultaneously
Reading music, interpreting rhythm, controlling emotion, listening carefully, and coordinating movement all happen together. Pianists constantly engage memory, language processing, mathematics, creativity, and fine motor control at once.

🧠 It builds extraordinary coordination
Each hand is often doing something completely different while the eyes read ahead and the ears monitor sound. The brain must coordinate:

* Left hand
* Right hand
* Foot pedals
* Sight reading
* Timing
* Dynamics
* Expression

Very few activities require this many simultaneous processes.

🎼 It strengthens memory and concentration
Learning repertoire improves:

There’s something magical about Sundays filled with music! Whether it’s the sound of piano drifting through the house, a beautiful orchestra performance, or students discovering the joy of music for the very first time — music has the power to bring calm, creativity, and connection to our weekend.

Did you know that I used to play the bassoon in the Orchestra? My favourite symphony is Giorgia’s New World Symphony.
