Weโ€™re excited to share that Little Stars will be taking part in Move in March this month! This wonderful initiative, created by Love to Ride and supported by Moonee Valley City Council, encourages communities to choose more sustainable ways to travel.

Throughout March, weโ€™ll be inviting our families to walk, ride, scoot, or catch the bus to the centre whenever possible. Every sustainable journey counts and helps us work towards a greener, healthier future ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

Not only does this initiative support environmental awareness, but it also promotes physical wellbeing, independence, and positive lifelong habits for our children.

We canโ€™t wait to see our community get involved and help us make Move in March a success! ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿ›ด๐ŸšŒ

We loved celebrating Lunar New Year in the Wombat Room this week! The children explored the meaning behind Lunar New Year, learning about how itโ€™s celebrated in countries such as China and Vietnam, and were fascinated by the colourful Dragon Dances and glowing lantern festivals. To extend their interest, we created our own paper lanterns and dancing dragons, encouraging creativity, cultural awareness and joyful learning through hands-on experiences.

In our Kookaburra Room, we have been focusing on the letter Aa.

During our group time sessions, the children explored the sound the letter makes, recognised both capital and lowercase forms, and eagerly shared words that begin with A. They each had a turn practising writing the letter, showing great focus and confidence while cheering their friends on.

Today in our Wombat, Kookaburra and Kangaroo Room, the children engaged in a hands-on cooking experience in celebration of World Pizza Day ๐Ÿ•.

Alongside our centre chef, the children helped to create their own unique pizzas, tailored to their individual taste buds. Using pita bread and English muffins as a base, the children explored a variety of fresh ingredients including pizza sauce, cheese, corn, tomatoes and capsicums as they designed their own delicious creations for lunch.

This activity supported the childrenโ€™s independence, decision-making and creativity as they chose their own toppings and explored different flavour combinations. It also encouraged fine motor development through spreading, sprinkling and assembling their pizzas. Throughout the experience, the children practised turn-taking, communication and teamwork while engaging in meaningful conversations about healthy foods, textures and preferences. Cooking experiences like this help to build confidence, promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities for children to develop practical life skills in a fun and engaging way.

Today, the children in the Platypus Room got stuck into a hands-on playdough experience! ๐Ÿ‘ They explored the textures of flour and dough, using their senses while squeezing, rolling, and shaping with their hands.

As they worked together to create sculptures and form balls, the children strengthened their fine motor skills, handโ€“eye coordination, and spatial awareness. This playful experience encouraged creativity, curiosity, and social interaction, showing how play-based learning supports childrenโ€™s overall development in a meaningful and enjoyable way โœจ

The Wombat Room engaged in a fun cake-making experience! After weeks of creating pretend cakes with playdough, we extended their interest by making a real cake with our chef, Gurdeep.

The children excitedly guessed the flavour, took turns adding ingredients, passing the bowl, and using the mixer. This experience supported their learning through turn-taking, cooperation, communication, and following instructions, while also building confidence in a real-world cooking activity. They proudly celebrated their teamwork, cheering, โ€œWe did good sharing!โ€ before waving goodbye to the cake as it went into the oven. They enjoyed their chocolate cake for afternoon tea ๐Ÿฐ

The children showed great interest during our morning activity of making homemade shakers. They began with a sensory exploration of colourful rice, using their hands to touch, feel and explore its texture, while observing changes through movement and sound. With the support of the educator, the children poured rice into clear bottles supporting the development of hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and concentration. Once sealed, the children shook the bottles and listened closely to the sounds produced, experimenting with cause and effect and engaging in meaningful sensory play.

Today, the platypus room enjoyed a beautiful hands-on baking experience for Chocolate Cake Day. They explored different textures by touching and feeling the ingredients, showing curiosity and excitement, while some children made expressions of surprise and joy and others observed calmly, taking it all in . In the afternoon, children shared the freshly baked cake together during afternoon tea, creating a wonderful sensory and social experience that supported connection, confidence and enjoyment of healthy routines.

The Children in the Platypus have been exploring the sand pit, using their hands, fingers and a variety of tools. Hidden treasures encouraged digging, discovery, and curiosity, with lots of interest shown in the texture and feel of the sand. Children confidently engaged in independent play, scooping, filling and uncovering objects at their own pace, while others expressed creativity through imaginative play, proudly moving around in costume. It was a wonderful activity that supported sensory exploration, independence and creative expression.
