Congratulations Ayshah! Learning is a life-long journey

At 56, Ayshah from Vermont South embraced learning after her children grew up. She discovered Vermont South Neighbourhood House (VSNH) through course guides and community lunches, where she felt welcomed. Inspired, she enrolled in the Introduction to Hospitality course with a friend.

Ayshah loved the course, praising her teacher, Janine, a trained chef, for her knowledge and support. Under Janine’s guidance, Ayshah learned essential skills such as workplace safety, barista techniques, and hands-on cooking sessions. The class was so engaging that students wished it wouldn’t end.

Interested in gardening? Come and try the gardening with friends program at Clota Cottage Neighbourhood House every Tuesday from 10:00-11:30am (during term)!

Please join us for lunch at Vermont South Neighbourhood House for a presentation by MACV - an alliance of four neighbourhood houses.

Over lunch, we will have the chance to hear about the 'Learn Local' courses they have.

- Learn Local courses are a cost-effective way of upskilling yourself and staff in a local and community environment.
- The wide variety of courses includes: Digital Literacy courses, Industry taster courses and Employability skills.

The courses can provide foundational, entry-level skills, needed for further training,
study and employment. The courses are also flexible and can be tailored to suit your needs.

🌟 Our Introduction to Hospitality program began today! 🌟

Our learners braved a cold and wet morning to come and begin their journey into Hospitality, which will provide them with skills and pathways into employment and further education opportunities!

The four houses that comprise MACV (Mitcham Community House, Avenue Neighbourhood, Clota Cottage Neighbourhood House, Vermont South Neighbourhood House) are proud to partner with The Chen Hotel to offer this opportunity, which includes a hotel tour, and meeting with the Managing Director. Our learners will also have the opportunity to engage in resume and interview skills training with staff from the Skills and Job Centre at Box Hill Institute.

MACV have collaborated with Whitehorse Business Group to host a networking lunch in September. Come along, enjoy a wonderful 2-course lunch at the social enterprise cafe at Vermont South Neighbourhood House and learn how you can upskill current and new staff!
