If anyone has started at your service since 14 August, their child safety training deadline probably isn't the 27th.

There are two deadlines running, and the start date decides which one applies.

Anyone working or volunteering at the service before 14 August 2026: complete by 27 August 2026.

Anyone who started on or after 14 August 2026: within 14 days of being employed, engaged or appointed, or before they begin working directly with children, whichever comes first.

That second one catches people out, because in the rush towards the 27th it is easy to treat everybody as having the same date. For some recent starters it may have already passed. Worth going through your last few starters by name rather than as a group.

Two other things while you are in there:

It applies whether or not the role involves direct contact with children. Regular and semi-regular volunteers and students on placement are the two most commonly missed, because neither goes through payroll.

It is two Foundation courses, both of them, roughly two hours. Free, and only through Geccko. Training completed on another platform does not meet the requirement.

As early childhood educators here in Australia, how much of our week disappears

The National Child Safety Advanced training is three courses, not two, and Course 5 has not been published yet, so today's launch does not start any clock. Courses 3 and 4 are for nominated supervisors, persons in day-to-day charge and staff who work directly with children, and persons with management or control skip them entirely.

The deadline that is actually coming up is 27 August, and that one is for the foundation training.

The National child safety training is mandatory for people working or volunteering in an early childhood education services.

Courses 3 and 4 are available from today.

Has anyone actually used the five funded hours yet? Providers can close after 5pm for up to five hours a year so staff can do the child safety training, with CCS still payable. The other job this week is evidence: certificates download from Geccko once both Foundation modules are done, and it isn't enough that the training happened, you need to be able to show it did. Worth knowing the two sit under different laws, which is why you get bounced between the regulator and the Department.

Twenty seconds. That is roughly how long your resume gets, whether it lands with a director at a small centre or with HR at one of the big providers, where software often reads it before a human does.

Here is the change that makes the biggest difference: most resumes list duties, but duties are just the job description and everyone applying has the same one, so what gets you the call is evidence of what you actually did with children.
