Awesome day out at Junction Oval the home of Cricket Victoria for two of our Cricket Academies from Mickleham Secondary College and Alkira Secondary College. The students were taken on a tour of the facilities, given an insight to the Melbourne Cricket Education Academy by Michael Beer, treated to net sessions and given experience on the state of the art HiTZ Cricket Australia simulators. They also had a specialised umpiring session with the experts at Cricket Victoria and the school’s local associations speaking to them about opportunities to use their umpiring qualifications to earn money and gain experience over summer. Thanks to Cricket Vic for supporting our AM Cricket Academies.

We love to hear this from one of our schools. Building nicely for their NZ tour next month!

On Friday 14th August our U18 Boys Rugby team travelled to Geelong to play against the Geelong Rams U18 team, taking the win 58-5! What an amazing effort from the boys! The refs feedback after the game was "I can't fault your boys on anything but being very respectful young men and playing the game the right way. Your group of young men are very talented, but also humble at the same time". Congratulation boys on a great exhibition game!

Massive congratulations to two of our Academy Movement schools, Lara Secondary College on taking out the boys, and winning the girls Rugby Victoria Shields after multiple weeks of competition. Really great to see such well rounded students on and off the field and so much collaboration and support from all of our schools throughout the tournament. A massive effort from all of our teachers and staff who put in the hours behind the scenes and on the day.

Our inaugural AFL Victoria Academy students from Glenroyc yesterday had the opportunity to visit The Hangar, the home of the Essendon Football Club

Students and staff were warmly welcomed by the Essendon Football Club staff and given a unique insight into life at an AFL club. The group of Yr 9 and Yr 10 students watched the men’s team undertake their main skill session before exploring the rich history of the club through a tour of the museum.

The visit finished with a presentation and Q&A where students learned about the diverse range of professions within a modern AFL club, with more than 100 roles contributing to operations both on and off the field.

Staff also outlined football pathways as well as career and tertiary education opportunities available through the Essendon Education Academy, an innovative partnership between Essendon Football Club and RMIT University.

Experiences like these help our students connect their passion for AFL with future study and career opportunities.

A second Academy Movement schools girls rugby clinic this week with girls from four of our rugby schools. This time the focus was on set piece and games. Around 60 girls there from

A big thanks to the boys at for helping out with some expertise and speaking to the girls about upcoming state trials. Thanks too goes to all of our teachers who put in the time and effort to champion girls rugby and build confident and well rounded students.

We can’t wait to run it back with all of our schools in Term 3!

A huge congratulations to Matthew Sauoa for all you hard work in making the Rugby Australia Under 20’s squad for the upcoming World Rugby Junior World Championship squad.

Matthew was a Year 12 graduate and leader of the Melton Secondary College Rugby Academy in 2025, we are so proud of you and wish you all the best representing Australia. Matt was also a proud product playing for his local team. A leader and good person on and off the field. We’re all behind you Matthew!
