The children love to do these things (practical life activities) for themselves and they learn to be careful and precise in their movements. This is both education of movement because there is a refinement of muscular coordination when the work is carefully done, an education through movement, because these activities involve judgement and aswell as self discipline, and an appreciation of orderliness

It has been a lovely start to our school holidays. We began the week exploring books written by a Eric Carle. We have been working on how to retell a story and the sequence of a story. We heard some beautiful narratives of the hungry catapillar this week.
we will continue to explore more books from Eric carle, if you do have books written by him, the children are very welcome to bring them in this week.

What is purposeful work
Purposeful work in a Montessori prepared environment refers to meaningful, self chosen, and hands on activities that fulfill a child’s internal developmental needs, promoting concentration, independence focus and joy

That’s why as Montessori very famously stated “Never help a child with a task in which they feel they can succeed”. Highlighting that real meaningful and purposeful activity builds the child’s independence and concentration.

Through practical excersises ... the children develop a true’social feeling’, for they are working in the environment of the community in which they live, without concerning themselves as to whether it is for their own, or for the common good. Maria Montessori

“How do we change the world? One single act of random kindness at a time - Morgan Freeman”

Our week of random acts of kindness included helping our friends, holding the door open for a friend, comforting a peer when upset, sharing a kind word etc.
