We have reached the end of a long term that has taken us from sunny autumn days through to the depths of a cold mid-winter.
If we tune in to the current news cycle it is easy to become despairing of news concerning war, famine, inequality, environmental degradation and unrest. Fortunately for us all we have a counter balance to this with all that is brought through the cultural life of the school.
Over the last few weeks alone we have had individual classes and our whole community involved in festivals, ceremonies, concerts, plays and more. The joy, hope, reverence and inspiration that is inherent in these events can make us feel confident in a bright future.
Being witness to so many wonderful young people sharing their individual and collective gifts through performance is heartening and inspirational. In our education, we hold a special place for these events, knowing just how valuable they are for all of us in the present moment and to take into the future.
We wish all of our community, both near and far, a very happy and restful winter break.

MRSS BUILDING PROJECTS
NEW PHOTO LAB & CLASSROOM SPACE
Earlier this term we had the great pleasure of celebrating the opening of our new photo lab and classroom
space, below the existing junior art building!
We would like to to acknowledge the hard work of Carolina Aguilera who dreamt into the space and
created a beautiful architectural design, as well as Simon Gabriel who took on the job of liaising with builders, council members and tradespeople to make sure the project progressed. Simon also did some beautiful cabinetry work that we have all been admiring.
The students have loved their first few weeks working in the space, some commenting that it is the kind of space they would like for their future homes.
As a community we have inherited an extraordinary built environment designed to nurture and support the goals of our education, with buildings and spaces that engender healthy and life-giving inner states.
It is wonderful to have another such space available to work in with the students.

Class 3 Mudbricks!
Mud, mud, glorious mud! Each morning Class 3 have been putting on our hats and boots and racing up to the farm with much enthusiasm.
Greeted at the gate by Farmer Ben, we have been learning how to make mudbricks, and what wonderful work it has been! Each day a new job awaits us, picking, shovelling, mixing the pie with our boots and moulding our bricks.
Class 3 have worked with joy and boundless energy and marvelled at the many bricks we have made. Our bricks are now stacked drying in the sun and when dry will be carefully stored away awaiting the next phase of our building project later in the year.
We are grateful to Farmer Ben for guiding us so well in each step of the mudbrick-making magic, and also for the delicious gifts from the farm that we have enjoyed tasting after our morning's work. What delightful abundance our farm does offer us, not only in the harvest of crops but the rich experiences we have there.

CLASS 6 SAILING CAMP
Like Odysseus in Homer’s Ancient Greek myth, we too embarked on a wonderful sea adventure when we set sail from Balnarring a couple of weeks ago.
With blue skies above and clear waters below, Tom and Oska our sailing instructors gave the children a good briefing on the lasers we were sailing, then the children were on the water in no time tacking and jibing their way around two buoys at Balnarring. By the third day we sailed around the point to Merricks where we were met by the parent helpers for morning tea, then around to Point Leo where they met us with our lunch and then we sailed back. The children loved the freedom and independence in the boats, particularly when the dolphins visited.
A big thank you to Daniel and Jess the Outdoor Ed teachers who regaled us with stories at night, played a fun game of lantern stalk and organised this wonderful adventure for us, and Adrienne, Mick and Judy for the delicious meals.
